They saw a handsome youth sleeping under a tree, his shoulders as broad as a lion's, and even though the sun had passed, the tree's shadow did not leave his body. They thought he was fit to be king, so they called out, 'Boy, wake up, wake up!' He asked, 'What is the use of waking me up now?' They said, 'We will make you king.' He asked, 'Is being king as comfortable as sleeping?' They asked, 'Then how should we wake you?' The youth said, 'Wake me with the sound of songs, cymbals, and music.' When they heard this, they thought, 'This must be someone born of a noble family.' So they asked, 'Who are you? Whose son are you?' In your land, in a place called 'རི་འཁོར་གང་པོའི་མཚན' (Ri 'khor gang po'i mtshan, transliteration: Rikhor Gangpo Tsen), there is a man named 'སྣ་ལ་གཏོགས་པ་གང་པོ་' (Sna la gtogs pa gang po, transliteration: Nala Tokpa Gangpo), who will have a son named 'སྨན་ཆེན་པོ་' (Sman chen po, transliteration: Men Chenpo). Let him be your minister. He will possess the land and then offer it to you, so you will have benefit, happiness, and power.' Those people found him and, as they had heard, learned that his wife was pregnant, and returned to report to the king. The king sent a letter to Gangpo, summoned him, and gave him that mountain with precious words, and instructed him to take care of the child in his wife's womb, so that his limbs would be intact. There, after nine months were completed, a beautiful and lovely boy was born, and a birth celebration was held, and they asked, 'What name should this boy be given?' The mother said, 'I have been suffering from illness for a long time, and the doctors have not been able to cure it, but since this boy entered my womb, my illness has been cured, so let him be named 'སྨན་ཆེན་པོ་' (Sman chen po, transliteration: Men Chenpo).' She also spoke a verse: Among all the medicines, My son is the great physician. This is a medicine superior to medicine, Therefore, his name is Physician. Then, Men Chenpo rode on his father's shoulders and was carried from the middle of the street to the pond to bathe, and the father picked up a piece of fish on the ground.
