He is the Bodhisattva Maitreya. Thus it is said. Furthermore, in the past, there was a royal palace like a lion. There was a king named Lion's Mane, whose wealth flourished and who ruled the kingdom according to Dharma. In that palace, there was a captain named Lion, whose wealth rivaled that of Vaishravana. He took a wife from the same lineage, and the Blessed One was born as their son, named the boy Simhala, who was handsome and pleasing to behold. When he grew up, he learned to read and became proficient in the eight kinds of examination, and so on. Therefore, he was assigned to separate houses for winter, spring, and summer. He also arranged three kinds of residences for his wives: superior, middling, and inferior. There, in the upper mansion, without any men, he was cherished with music. At another time, he said to his father, "Please allow me to enter the great ocean." The father said, "Son, I have many kinds of wealth, and even if you use them like sesame seeds and rice, my enjoyment will not diminish or be exhausted. As long as I am alive, enjoy yourself and be happy. After I die, then go and accumulate wealth." He repeatedly asked for permission to enter the ocean. Knowing that he would inevitably be devoured by demons and destroyed by time, the father said to his son, "Do as you wish. Endure those fears." Then, he announced that he would set sail with five hundred merchants. There, he also took along five people who lived by physical labor, including those who rowed vigorously, great swimmers, and those who carried sails, and began to enter the great ocean. Since they did not know whether they would cross the great ocean safely or not, they prepared swimming equipment on a ship, such as pumice stones, cotton pillows, a boatman's vessel, and swimmers. When they boarded the ship, aquatic creatures destroyed the ship. Each of them rode on pumice stones and swimmers, and by their power, they were driven by the wind from the north to the southern shore. On the Copper Island, there was a Rakshasi named Crane Maiden, and there was an island that guarded the shipwrecked merchants in a joyful manner. It was called a place that corresponded to the joy of victory and a place that corresponded to poverty.

We who have no families need a family and a protector. These are your food, drink, clothes, dwellings, gardens, and so on, as well as the jewels of Jambudvipa, such as gems, pearls, and vaidurya, up to the right-spiraling conch shell. Please enjoy playing and rejoicing with us! Even if some of you become very drunk, do not go to the southern path. Having said this, the men became fond of and infatuated with the forms of the women, and there was no other suffering or bondage. The Rakshasa women, having said this, came out of the sea and played and rejoiced with them, and even had sons and daughters. At that time, the captain of Sinhala thought, why are these women so careful to guard the southern path? So, he slept with whichever woman, and when she fell asleep, he quietly got down from the big bed, hid a sharp sword under his arm, and went to the south. There, he heard many people making sounds of wailing, saying: Alas! Parents and sons, and those who make Jambudvipa happy, have abandoned us. Having heard this, he was immediately frightened and did not speak, and stopped there. After a while, he dispelled his fear and continued along that path. On the way, he saw a huge iron city, tall and wide, and he wondered if there were any small windows there, so he searched around, but he could not find even a hole that a cat could enter. To the north of that iron city, there was a huge Shirisha tree, tall and wide, and he climbed up the tree and looked, and said to the crowd of people inside the iron house: Why are you wailing like this? They replied: We are merchants of Jambudvipa, who set sail on the sea, and our ships were destroyed by aquatic creatures.

As soon as other merchants from Jambudvipa arrived by ship, when those Rakshasa women found them, they ate whatever they could of us, eating even their hair, body hair, nails, etc., without leaving even a little bit, and even the place where a drop of blood fell, they would scrape it up with their fingers and eat it. We are the leftovers of those, imprisoned in this iron city,' they said. The captain then said, 'Wise ones, do you not know of any means for you and us to escape safely to Jambudvipa?' They said, 'Wise ones, there is no means for us. If we think of escaping, no matter whether we flee from above or below this iron city, they will multiply two or three times. You have a means of escape. Because the gods wander above here, they say this: 'Hey, young merchants of Jambudvipa, on the fifteenth fasting day of this month, go north. There, a horse king named Cloud Strength, having eaten the uncultivated rice grains, is without sickness, happy, full of strength, with satisfied senses, straightening his upper body, will say three times: Who will go to the other shore? Who will be honored? Who will happily and well go to Jambudvipa?' Go to him and say, 'We will go to the other shore. Please let us safely go to Jambudvipa.' He will help you reach the other shore.' We have heard these things.' The captain kept those words in mind. Then slowly he returned to his own dwelling, and quietly lay down where the woman was sleeping. The next morning, the captain of Sinhala got up early, went to those many merchants, and said, 'Wise ones, come to that secluded garden, I have some secret words to say to you, and even if you are very drunk, bring the boys and girls and come.' Just like that, the merchants gathered in the secluded place, and the captain discussed in detail what had happened, this Rakshasa woman.

Then, when the horse king ate the salu fruit, straightened his back, and proclaimed, "Who goes to the other shore?" all the merchants went to the horse king, bowed with folded hands, and said: We are going to the other shore. Please take us to the other shore. Please let us reach Jambudvipa safely and happily. At that time, the horse king said: Wise ones, those women will transform into beautiful and attractive forms, carrying their own sons and daughters, and say this: Handsome gentlemen, please come here. Be our household and guardians of our wealth. These are your places for food and drink, places for clothes, dwellings, pleasure gardens, forests, delightful ponds, and the jewels of Jambudvipa, such as jewels, pearls, vaidurya, white pearl shells, coral, gold, silver, the essence of stones, turquoise, red gems, and right-spiraling conch shells, please come here. Play and enjoy happiness and joy with us. If you do not care for us, then for a while, take your own sons and daughters and leave. You will think to yourselves: My wife, son, or daughter, from the place of food to the right-spiraling conch shell, are mine. Those who think this, even if they have already ridden on my back, will fall like ripe fruit falling from the top of a tree, and those women will come and eat them, eating them completely, and even the place where the blood drips will be scraped clean with fingers.
