After saying this, this king, because of a woman, took up weapons and repeatedly cut off my limbs with an afflicted mind, similarly, with this root of virtue of my enduring and being steadfast, may I destroy my own afflictions, and when I attain unsurpassed enlightenment, may I repeatedly cut his afflictions with the sword of wisdom, first cutting off his afflictions. At that time, the earth shook in six ways, and five hundred attendants flew into the sky and came before him, seeing the teacher suffering so much, they asked: Has your mind of patience not diminished? The Patient Ascetic spoke of the state of mind not changing. Then, the god who was very pleased with the Patient Ascetic said: This evil king is harming an innocent ascetic in this way, if lightning is sent down, this king and his retinue will be killed today. The ascetic said: Even if someone separates my body, hands, feet, and nose, and does cruel things, I do not want him to suffer even a little sin, let alone innocent beings? After saying this, he did not allow the killing. Then, the god of Varanasi sent down plagues, rats, and parrots, making that country desolate, and the gods did not send rain, causing most people to die. The king asked the diviners, and they said: Because the ascetic was harmed, the gods are unhappy, so it is like this. The king asked: Then what should be done to remedy it? They said: Offer tormas and other things to the gods, and ask the ascetic and the gods for forgiveness, that will help. The king, according to what they said, announced throughout the city, offered to the gods, gave alms to the poor, and then went to the abode of the Patient Ascetic, knelt at his feet, and asked for forgiveness. As soon as he said that, his body returned to its former state. The king and his retinue looked with astonished eyes and prostrated at his feet. That king always made offerings to that hermit. Then, about a thousand wandering ascetics who had joined other schools, out of jealousy of the hermit who had become the king's object of worship, scattered unclean dirt on him. That hermit prayed: By the merit of my practice of patience, when I attain enlightenment, may I wash away all your dust and dirt with the water of nectar, and may you be completely purified of the defilement of desire. Thus, the hermit who spoke of patience was the Blessed One himself, King Strife-Born was the all-knowing Kaundinya, his four ministers were the other five monks, and the thousand wandering ascetics were the thousand monks including the Kashyapa brothers. Furthermore, in the past, when the Blessed One was the king of the city of Varanasi named Great Power Army, that country was prosperous and flourishing, and the harvest was good. He ruled the kingdom according to Dharma, giving whatever they desired to all sentient beings, establishing them in the ten virtues, protecting even non-humans, and that kingdom became very peaceful. At that time, the king of the Land Under the Sun ruled the kingdom unrighteously, harming many sentient beings, so his people, fearing heavy taxes and punishments, fled to the land of King Great Power Army. When the king of the Land Under the Sun saw his people fleeing there, he assembled an army with four divisions and came to the land of King Great Power Army. When King Great Power Army heard this, he said to his ministers: I cannot bear to commit evil deeds for the sake of just one lifetime's sustenance. If you do not want the country to be destroyed, then resist the king of the Land Under the Sun.

After saying these words, the ministers thought, this king cannot bear to kill anyone, it would be terrible if we all disappeared, it is better to abandon him alone. So they submitted to the king under the sun. King Great Power Troop sensed that these ministers had abandoned him, thinking, and then went to live in the forest. The king under the sun made the people submit to him and asked: Where did the king go? They replied: He fled. So the king under the sun ruled that place. At that time, in a mountain village, there was a poor and destitute Brahmin who had many children. There was a famine in that place, and he could not support them. Thinking, King Great Power Troop is a compassionate person, let's go and beg him for wealth. So he went to Varanasi, and when he heard that King Great Power Troop had gone to the forest, he felt sad, thinking, if I go to his residence in the forest, perhaps he will give alms. So he went to the forest where the Bodhisattva lived and inquired about the situation in detail. The Bodhisattva said: Haven't you heard that I live in the forest? Where is there wealth now? That Brahmin was very disappointed and fell to the ground. The Bodhisattva sprinkled water on his face and lifted him up. That Brahmin entered the dense forest, tied a rope to a tree, and intended to hang himself. When the Bodhisattva saw this, he felt compassion, thinking, if he takes me to the enemy, the enemy will give him a lot of wealth. So he said to the Brahmin: Do not be discouraged, I will eliminate your poverty. Brahmin, come here, you tie me up tightly and take me to a certain king under the sun, he will give you a lot of wealth. The Brahmin said: I dare not bind someone like you. The Bodhisattva said: Do not hesitate, tie me up and take me away!

The king did not believe it, so he went to the Bodhisattva on purpose. When the Brahmin saw him leading like that, he asked, "Where are you leading this one from?" The Brahmin said, "This is an enemy of the gods. I have been living in the forest of asceticism, and I have seized him by my power and led him here." The king thought, "This one has a strong body, but the Brahmin has a weak body, so he cannot seize this one. This one has great compassion, so he must have let me bind him and given him to this one." So he said to the Brahmin, "Tell me truthfully how you seized him." Then the Brahmin told the king what had happened. As soon as he heard that, the king became faithful and thought, "I have harmed such a being." So he himself untied the bonds and invited the Bodhisattva to the royal palace, embraced him with all his limbs, and placed him on the lion throne. He placed the crest of his own crown on the Bodhisattva's head and said, "You are worthy of being king, but I am not worthy." Then he offered him the assembly of troops and the treasury, and asked for forgiveness, and then went to his own country. Then King Great Power gave the Brahmin a great heap of wealth and made him abide in the path of the ten virtues. Later, when the Blessed One became enlightened and was dwelling in Jeta Grove, there was a Brahmin's son who was skilled in all the Brahmin's teachings. According to the Brahmin's custom, he practiced celibacy for forty-eight years. After that, he took a wife who was beautiful and pleasing to look at. That wife was promiscuous and desired other men, and she was not satisfied with living with the old Brahmin, but wanted to sleep with other men. So she urged him to go elsewhere to seek wealth. So he went to another country and found many karshapanas. On the way back, he was robbed by bandits and was very distressed. He thought, "Even if I go home now, there will be a great quarrel with the Brahmin woman. I might as well hang myself on a tree in the dense forest and die." So he began to do so.
