He pleased all beings, practiced the Dharma and exerted diligence in their teachings, and having the power of wisdom, attained fearlessness and liberated many millions of beings. Furthermore, in a previous life, when the Blessed One was born as the son of a king named 'Proclaiming in All Directions,' the gods immediately proclaimed, 'A practitioner of the Dharma has appeared in the world!' When that youth was seven years old, he asked his father, the king, about Dharma and non-Dharma, and requested to renounce the world himself. He also explained the Dharma, such as the ripening of sinful deeds, which led his father and mother to renounce the world, abide in discipline, attain the five superknowledges, and assuredly lead many beings to unsurpassed enlightenment. Furthermore, when he became a hermit named 'Subduing the Senses,' because he had not separated from desire, he examined things individually, but not through the power of meditation, but through the restraint of the doors of the senses. In order to prevent afflictions from arising in the senses towards objects, when he went to solitary places and gardens, after a long time, he saw a woman and developed attachment. He then remembered: 'I am controlling the senses with this individual examination, but not with the individual examination of wisdom. Now I must seek the noble wisdom that will not turn into affliction.' As he contemplated in this way, his own wisdom arose: 'Like this, by examining the nature of afflictions and women, one realizes that all afflicted dharmas are unattainable, and subsequently attains separation from desire from desire.' He became free from doubt through the noble wisdom that is without any affliction. Furthermore, in the past, the Tathagata Yeshe Nangwa (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) named Jnana-prabha, who lived for ten billion years, together with many people, including a king named Kshad-par-sem, taught the categories of the Dharma of the Samadhi of Equality, and skillfully taught the verses for entering the door of bodily discipline. That king renounced the world in the teachings of that Tathagata, practiced immaculate pure conduct for ten billion years, and also meditated on the four Brahma-viharas, thereby seeing eighty billion Buddhas.

between. After that, successively renouncing from as many Buddhas as the sands of the Ganges River, practicing this supreme pure conduct, and becoming the best of the eloquent monks who are learned and confident, they abide in the nature of pure morality. Such statements indicate that Bodhisattvas always possess the morality of restraining misconduct, the morality of accumulating virtue, and the morality of benefiting sentient beings. The chapter on morality ends here. Formerly, beyond countless eons, in Varanasi, the king of the Kashi country named Brahma-datta ruled the kingdom, and that country was prosperous and flourishing. At that time, the king united with his queen, and she gave birth to a son who was exceedingly handsome, and they named him Kashi-priya. Later, when another queen of the king gave birth to a son, there was a war in that country, so the boy was named War-born. King Brahma-datta allowed the kingdom to be ruled by both Dharma and non-Dharma, so the young Kashi-priya saw this and thought, "If I become king after my father dies, and I also allow the kingdom to be ruled by both Dharma and non-Dharma, then I will fall into hell. I should renounce and become homeless." So he went to his father, touched his feet, and said, "Father, please allow me to renounce." The king said, "Son, for what reason? If you can obtain the kingdom that is ruled by sacrifice and asceticism, why renounce?" Priya said, "In the forest, wearing bark and grass, gathering roots and fruits, and living together with fierce wild animals is the best. It is not right for the wise to kill, imprison, and beat for the sake of the kingdom." The king said, "Young man, understand that you are my only son, beloved, pleasing, and irreplaceable. If I die, I will be separated from you unwillingly. How can I let you go while I am alive?" The young man said, "Father, if you allow it, that would be great. If you do not allow it, I will neither eat nor salute." Then, the young man Kashi-priya

From eating only one meal, to eating two, three, four, five, and six meals. Then, the king said to the young man, "Practicing brahmacharya is difficult, living alone in a secluded place, living with wild animals, and living on food given by others. Until the end of life, all human games and joys must be abandoned. Son, be the crown prince, enjoy desires, and do charity and merit." But that young man said nothing. Then, the king said to the concubines and ministers, "Persuade the young man." They also said as before, "Young man, you are very young, you only know happiness, you do not know suffering, and it is difficult to live in a secluded place." But he still said nothing. Then, the king urged, and the sons of the ministers and the sons of the attendants who played with that young man, and other young men also said to him as before, but he still said nothing. Then, those young men prayed to King Brahma-dana, "May the gods know! What does it matter if Kashi Beautiful Joy dies? Renouncing like this is praised by the wise. If he likes it, he will live, and you will see him. If he is not happy and returns from the ascetic, the son's place is with his parents, where else can he go?" The king said, "Young men, if that is the case, then allow him." Then, those young men spoke earnestly to Kashi Beautiful Joy in this way. After that, the young man Kashi Beautiful Joy gradually nourished his body with essence, and after being brought out from Varanasi, he renounced among the ascetics. He strived diligently, separated from attachment to desires, attained the samadhi of loving-kindness, and became full of loving-kindness towards all sentient beings. By the power of that loving-kindness, even fierce wild animals became accustomed to his abode and did not harm him. Therefore, his name became known as "The Patient Ascetic," and he lived with five hundred ascetics. Later, King Brahma-dana died, and the contender was placed on the throne, and he allowed the kingdom to be ruled by dharma and non-dharma. The Patient Ascetic

Rahula said: "Venerable Abbot, my body is nourished by food and drink, so the monastery's medicine is of no use to me. I will go to live outside the village." He said: "Child, it is fine whether you live in the village or the monastery, but ascetics should guard their senses. Go near Varanasi, build a hut of leaves, and live there." Having received permission from the Abbot, he gradually searched for a place to live and eventually settled in a quiet part of his father's garden. At another time, during the summer season, when the flowering trees were in bloom and the garden was filled with the sounds of swans, cuckoos, mynah birds, and other birds, King Kalmashapada came to visit with his retinue of queens. While King Kalmashapada was asleep in the garden, the women who loved flowers and fruits began to wander around. After a while, they saw a sage who practiced patience, living at the edge of the garden with careful conduct. Filled with faith, they prostrated to him and sat around him. The sage also taught them the Dharma. After a while, the king woke up and, not seeing his queens, became angry. He drew his sword and searched for them, and then he saw them sitting near the sage. Knowing that the king was angry, the queens were frightened and scattered. Kalmashapada said to the sage: "Hey, who are you?" "I am one who practices patience." The king said: "Have you attained the four formless absorptions and the four concentrations, and so on?" He said: "I have not." The king said: "If you have not attained those qualities, you are just an ordinary person. How can one trust you to be with women in a secluded and safe place? What do you do, staying here all the time?" The sage said: "I practice patience." King Kalmashapada drew his sword and said: "You say you practice patience? I will see if you can endure my anger!" He then cut off both of the sage's hands and asked: "Who are you?" He said: "I am one who has patience, one who speaks of patience." He cut off his feet and asked him again, and he still said: "I am one who speaks of patience." His limbs and
