在三十六个时期内，兜率天众拥有统治权；在三十六个时期内，无诤天众拥有统治权；在三十六个时期内，三十三天众拥有统治权；在三十六个时期内，四大天王众拥有统治权。在无数个百千时期里，转轮圣王战胜四方，具备正法，拥有轮宝等七宝，英勇无畏，具备最上妙的形体，拥有压伏敌人的上千儿子，像这样成为转轮圣王后，那位国王将整个大地直至大海的边际，全部以不造成损害、没有伤害、没有惩罚、没有刀兵追逐的方式，以符合正法且公正的方式妥善治理，使其安住。世尊说道：谁能成为伟大的主宰？这是成为主宰的原因。诸佛利益者们，在世间如此宣说。听闻这些广大的神通和奇妙之事后，无论是智者还是贵族出身之人，谁会不生起信心呢？因此，想要对我好，想要成为伟大之人，就应当忆念佛陀的教法，将正法奉为至上。如是说。又，过去世，这位世尊在此赡部洲，成为力量强大的转轮圣王，名为吉祥军，形貌极其端正，具有宿命通，是具足正法的大国王。凭借他的威力，树木和庄稼都能成熟，雨水也能顺利降下。那位国王有一位贤淑的王妃，名为胜光，美丽动人，深得国王的喜爱。那位国王在整个赡部洲免除了赋税、赌博和船只税，使人民安乐地生活。那位国王甚至对自己身上的肉，凡是有人索求的，都给予食物、饮料、珍宝、住所，以及用各种装饰品装扮的年轻女子等，给予一切所求之物，广行布施，使得居住在这个洲的所有人都变得富有且享受丰厚的财富。

For thirty-six periods, the Joyful Ones (Tushita) held the power of kingship; for thirty-six periods, the Non-Contending Ones held the power of kingship; for thirty-six periods, the Thirty-Three held the power of kingship; and for thirty-six periods, the Four Great Kings held the power of kingship. For countless hundreds of thousands of periods, a Wheel-Turning King, victorious over the four directions, endowed with Dharma, possessing the seven precious things including the wheel, brave and fearless, possessing the most excellent form, and possessing a thousand sons who subdue enemies, having become such a one. That king governed the entire great earth up to the edge of the ocean, without causing harm, without injury, without punishment, without pursuit by weapons, in accordance with Dharma and with fairness, and caused it to abide well. The Blessed One said: "What is the cause of becoming the master of the great self? This is what the Buddhas, the benefactors, have declared in the world. Having heard of these vast miracles and wonders, who, whether wise or born of noble lineage, would not develop faith? Therefore, desiring good for myself and desiring to be a great self, here, having remembered the Buddha's teachings, one should hold the sacred Dharma as supreme." Thus he spoke. Furthermore, in a previous life, this Blessed One in this Jambudvipa became a powerful Wheel-Turning King named Glorious Army, with an exceedingly excellent form, remembering his past lives, a great king endowed with Dharma. Through his power, trees and crops ripened, and rain fell well. That king had a virtuous queen named Victorious Light, beautiful and pleasing to behold, who was pleasing to the king's heart. That king governed the entire Jambudvipa peacefully, without taxes, gambling, or ship duties, and that king gave generously whatever was requested, even from his own flesh, giving food, drink, jewels, dwellings, and young women adorned with all kinds of ornaments, etc., giving whatever was desired, causing all the people living in this continent to become rich and enjoy great wealth.

He seemed afraid to speak in front of the king. The king said, "Brahmin, tell me what you need, and I will fulfill your wish." Then, the Brahmin's child recounted what had happened and demanded the queen. That king was unhappy because he loved the queen, thinking, "If I am separated from this queen, how will I live? All my retinue will also be tormented by intense suffering." Thinking this, he remained silent for a moment. He thought, "If I cannot give away my son and wife, I will not attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment." He abandoned the disheartened mind caused by separation from loved ones, descended from the lion throne, and with his left hand, he held the queen, who was as beautiful as a goddess, filled with tears from being separated from her husband, and whose face was cast down in suffering as if falling into a great darkness. With his right hand, he held a golden vase and poured a stream of water into the hand of that Brahmin's child, gave away the queen, and made a vow to attain unsurpassed enlightenment. At that time, wondrous signs occurred, such as the earth shaking in six ways. Then, he took the queen and gave her to the abbot hermit. That queen, like a fish taken from water, was weakened and, remembering the Bodhisattva, began to fast. The gods, knowing that the earth shook due to the power of that king, praised him. Then, Indra, the lord of the gods, together with four sons of the gods, arrived in that city. In a forest not far away, there appeared an old Brahmin in the guise of having his body cut off below the navel as if with a saw, with blood flowing. The four sons of the gods, in the guise of the Brahmin's sons, lifted him from his seat, crying out in pain, and with the smell of blood attracting crows and vultures, followed him towards the city gate. Seeing this, everyone said, "This Brahmin's waist is cut off, how can he live without his mind being disturbed? This person is in the guise of a flesh-eater." Some began to flee. Some brave ones thought, "This person is in the guise of a flesh-eater; it would be strange if he could answer if asked." So they asked, "Are you a human or a flesh-eater? Who cut off your body? Where do you come from?" He, enduring intense pain, said, "King Shibi, do not be afraid! I am a Brahmin, not a Rakshasa. Due to the sins of past karma, I have obtained such a state." And so on, he spoke many verses, gradually.

The hosts of gods, nagas, yakshas, etc., thinking that King Shri Gupta would become miserable, cried out in lamentation. At that time, the entire Jambudvipa shook, and it became dark with smoke, and meteors fell, and so on. At that time, the queen, Royal Light, was grieving because she was separated from her husband and would not eat. That seer felt compassion and thought that he should give (the king's body) back to King Shri Gupta, and so he comforted the queen, saying: Because Jambudvipa is shaking like this and covered in darkness, before long, some great beings will die. Then, the king saw the half-bodied Brahmin from the top of the palace, and that Brahmin begged the king for half of his body. The minister Great Wisdom said to the king: This is not a human being, but a flesh-eater. How can he live and speak when his body has been cut in half? The Brahmin said: I am not a flesh-eater, but a Brahmin. Because of poverty, I left my children and wife and came with the intention of begging for wealth from King Shri Gupta. When I arrived, the sun had set and the city gates were closed, so I went back to the house of merit and fell asleep. Then a tiger came and cut off half of my body with claws like knives. Although I was threatened by intense pain, I was unable to die because I was bound by non-virtuous karma, and I was in great suffering. At that time, a goddess in the sky said that if I begged King Shri Gupta for half of his body, he would surely give it. Hearing this, I developed the hope of living and was able to live. At that time, I thought, I have no lower body, how can I walk? While I was despondent, by chance the sun rose and these four relatives came. Seeing my miserable state, they wept. In order to comfort them, I spoke in detail the words of the goddess, and they put me on a palanquin and carried me here. Like this, with his face full of tears, he also spoke some verses. Then, the king comforted the Brahmin, telling him not to be afraid, and promised to give his body, and sent a man to fetch a sharp knife.
