Moreover, it is also inappropriate for a son to empty his parents' storehouse. I should find a way to obtain wish-fulfilling jewels, making wealth inexhaustible, and thus benefit many people. Thinking this way, he asked people for methods, such as plowing fields, developing animal husbandry, and doing business. Some people said that it would be good to enter the sea and obtain jewels. The great benefactor thought that plowing fields and the like were not my part, and I should enter the sea to obtain jewels. He asked his parents to do so. They said that entering the sea was difficult to return safely, and they did not agree. Therefore, before this wish was fulfilled, he vowed to lie face down on the ground in front of his parents and not get up, and stayed like this for six days. The parents said all sorts of things to dissuade him, but they were unsuccessful. After that, the parents agreed, and he ate. After that, he set out on the road with about five hundred people, and not many days passed before they were robbed by savages, and all their belongings were stolen. After that, they continued on and reached a city called Dashupa, where they met a Brahmin named Kabili. He went to the Brahmin's house and begged for three thousand gold coins. At that time, the Brahmin's daughter, with golden skin and tall hair, who had not agreed even when four thousand petty kings had proposed to her, was living in the house, and just hearing the voice of the great benefactor standing at the door, she said to her parents: The voice speaking outside the door is my husband. After that, the Brahmin came to the door, thinking that this boy was superior to others, and in response to his begging for gold coins, he took the gold coins with one hand and led his daughter with the other, giving him both the gold coins and his daughter. In the continent, the great benefactor was skilled in assessing precious jewels. He showed the valued jewels to the merchants, and after the ship was filled, they returned. The great benefactor said, "I will not return until I obtain the wish-fulfilling jewel from the palace of the Naga king." The merchants were disheartened and said, "All of us will not return, but will wander about." The great benefactor said, "I will pray for you, wishing you a safe return to your homeland." Having said this, he took a bowl in his hand, made offerings to the four directions, spoke words of truth, and then returned to the continent of Jambudvipa. The great benefactor, for seven days, the water only submerged to his knees; then for seven days, the water submerged to his thighs; then for seven days, the water submerged to his waist; again for seven days, the water submerged to his shoulders; and then for seven days, he swam to the foot of a mountain. He grabbed a tree and climbed the mountain, reaching the summit in seven days. After spending seven days on the summit, he then spent seven days descending to the water's edge at the foot of the mountain. There, he saw a golden-colored lotus in the water, its roots entwined by a venomous snake. Then, that Bodhisattva sat in the lotus position and entered into the samadhi of loving-kindness. The hatred of those venomous snakes subsided, and with loving-kindness, all venom was pacified. The Bodhisattva stepped off the lotus and walked for seven days, breaking free from those venomous snakes. After that, he walked again and encountered Rakshasas, who smelled the scent of humans and ran towards him. There, he again generated a mind of loving-kindness, and those Rakshasas asked with gentle words, "Young man, where do you come from? Where are you going?" The great benefactor said, "I have come to seek the wish-fulfilling jewel." those Rakshasas were delighted, thinking, "This is someone with great merit. The palace of smoke-earth is very far away, and he will never reach it, causing him distress. It would be better to transport him there with magical power." So they carried him into the sky and placed him in a place four hundred yojanas away. After that, he walked again, and before long, he saw a silver castle, thinking, "This must be the dwelling place of the Nagas." So he approached the castle. Outside the castle were layers of pits.

Generating a mind of loving-kindness towards them, the venom subsided, and he trampled them with his feet and went to the city of the Nagas. That city was entwined by two Nagas, their heads resting on the city gate. Seeing the great generosity, those two Nagas raised their heads, and from the act of giving, he generated a mind of loving-kindness, and their heads lowered and lay on the ground. He trampled on their heads and went inside the city, and he saw a Naga dwelling in a palace of seven precious jewels. Seeing the Bodhisattva, that Naga was startled. Surrounded by seven abysses, no one else can come here, so wondering who this could be, he rose and welcomed him, placed him on a jeweled throne, and gave him various foods. Then he asked how he had come. Because the people of Jambudvipa are poor and destitute, committing various sins, and immediately after death fall into the lower realms, I, with a compassionate heart, have endured the exhaustion of the long road. Great king, I have come to beg you for the wish-fulfilling jewel. In order to benefit beings with that jewel, and to manifestly awaken through merit, please grant the jewel without contradicting my wish. The Naga king said: The wish-fulfilling jewel is difficult to find. If you have come for this, stay for a month. If you accept my offerings and teach the Dharma, I will give you the jewel. The Bodhisattva also said that he would do so, and the Naga king offered various foods with a hundred flavors every day, and also offered music. The Bodhisattva taught him the categories of mindfulness for a month, and when he prepared to leave, the Naga king was delighted and removed the jewel from the crown of his head and offered it, and prayed: Great being, when you become a Buddha, may I become your supreme attendant. He asked the Naga king what power this jewel had. He said: This can rain down everything needed within two thousand yojanas like rain. The Bodhisattva thought, this jewel is powerful, but it cannot accomplish my great purpose, so the Naga king and his retinue escorted him away.

Then he went again, where there was a castle of blue beryl, surrounded by seven layers of moats, and two dragons entwined around it. As before, he went nourished by a mind of loving-kindness, and the dragon king residing in the castle welcomed and honored him as before. When he asked for the jewel, the dragon king said that if he could teach the Dharma for two months, he would offer the jewel. So he taught the Dharma of miraculous feet for two months, and the dragon king offered the wish-fulfilling jewel, which could rain down whatever was desired in a range of four thousand yojanas. The bodhisattva made a prayer to be his close attendant when he became a Buddha. The bodhisattva thought, "This jewel is also very powerful, but it has not become quite the measure of my thought." Then he went again, where there was a golden castle with seven moats and two dragons entwined around it. He went inside as before, and the welcome and questions were the same as before. There, he extensively explained and taught the various categories of Dharma for four months. The dragon king took the wish-fulfilling jewel from the crown of his head and offered it, and again made a prayer to be his close attendant when he became a Buddha. The dragon king said that the power of that jewel could rain down a rain of jewels and whatever was desired in a circumference of eight thousand yojanas. The bodhisattva was very happy, thinking, "If the extent of Jambudvipa is only seven thousand yojanas, then this precious jewel will surely fulfill my wishes." So he tied the three precious jewels he had obtained earlier and later to the hem of his garment and went out, and the dragon king and his retinue escorted him. Then, the bodhisattva went a little further and took the precious jewels in his hands, and made a prayer: "If these are truly wish-fulfilling precious jewels, may I fly into the sky." As soon as he spoke, he flew into the sky, escaped the obstacle of the ocean, and reached the shore. There, he rested a little and fell asleep. At that time, the small dragons of the ocean discussed, "There are only these three precious jewels in this ocean, and this man has taken two-thirds. Let's steal them back." So the dragons stole the jewels. The bodhisattva woke up and looked, and saw that the jewels were gone. He thought, "Surely the dragons of the ocean have stolen them.
