The Dharma is victorious over non-Dharma. The Sangha is victorious over the heretics. Power is victorious over the Asuras. The Garuda is victorious over the ocean. Fire is victorious over all trees. Water will be victorious over fire. Wind will be victorious over clouds. The Vajra pierces jewels. The gods abide in truth. The earth also abides in truth. The Buddha and the Dharma are also truth. Truth is victorious, falsehood is defeated. By these words of truth and truthfulness, may we, the teachers, disciples, patrons, and retinue, all be victorious over all Maras and unfavorable forces! Victory, victory, supreme victory! The method of protection: Oṃ Sarva Tathāgata, until Adhiṣṭhite Svāhā! I pray that the root of the teachings, the venerable and holy lamas who have passed away, and all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, may accomplish the activity of their stainless minds, especially their supreme intentions, becoming more and more perfect. I pray that the venerable and holy lamas who are now living, and all the virtuous spiritual friends who uphold the Buddha's teachings, may have good health and long lives. I pray that all the sins, obscurations, and broken vows of myself and all sentient beings may be pacified. I pray that all obstacles that hinder the path to higher realms, liberation, and omniscience, and all non-virtue, afflictions, and cognitive obscurations may be pacified. I pray that the harm and suffering that arise temporarily from the power of karma and afflictions, especially the eighteen great demons, the eighty thousand types of obstacles, evil spirits, planets, constellations, curses, and harm caused by the mantras of outsiders, may be pacified. I pray that the harm caused by the elements, such as fire, water, and earthquakes, and the sixteen great fears, such as crop failure and harm from enemies, and the suffering of famine, human disease, livestock disease, the four hundred and four diseases, poverty, untimely death, and all the causes of these—evil intentions and actions—may be pacified. In particular, I pray that all unfavorable internal and external factors, whether caused by past karma or present circumstances, and the suffering of the body, such as harm to the body and mind from demons and diseases, and mental unease, bad luck, bad dreams, bad omens, and harm to the body, life, and wealth of all of us—teachers, students, patrons, and retinue—may be pacified.
