Thus it is said. That is the cause similar to the category of nirvana, and the cause of the power or lord of samsara. That also exists in the Alaya consciousness in a manner mixed like water and milk. Therefore, those who are ignorant of the definitive meaning, because they do not recognize the wisdom of the Alaya, only consider that there are six consciousnesses, or even if they consider that there are eight consciousnesses, they only regard the Alaya as consciousness. But in the *Compendium on the Great Vehicle* it says: 'Relying on the enlightenment of the Buddha, it becomes a habit of hearing, and in whatever state it is, the consciousness that matures in a co-emergent manner, although it merges like water and milk, that is not the Alaya consciousness, because it is the seed of its antidote.' As it is said, consciousness as the support and wisdom as the supported, merge in this way. The Alaya consciousness is what is now widely known to the Abhidharma practitioners. Although it is the actual cause of samsara, it is not the cause of nirvana. The detailed classification of it should be understood in the self-commentary and so on. Here, the meaning of beginningless and endless is that, relative to the aspect of consciousness, what appears as confusion and liberation, that is its beginning and end. But relative to the beginning and end of time, that is a fabrication of conceptual thought, and its essence, both confusion and liberation, never existed from the beginning. The essence of both defiled and undefiled minds is dependent origination, which cannot be expressed in any other way. Therefore, because there is no other beginning from that, it is called beginningless time. Or, because it is free from the three of arising, abiding, and ceasing, it is called beginningless and endless. Buddhas and all sentient beings, because they cannot be said to be one or different, are vast and boundless. Not falling into any one side of permanence and annihilation, acceptance and rejection, etc., it is non-falling to sides, which is revealing the nature of reality. Here, saying that the continuum of cause is the Alaya consciousness, and that the noble father and sons do not accept the Alaya consciousness, etc., are all faults of not having heard the *Compendium on the Great Vehicle* and the *Commentary on the Mind of Enlightenment*, etc. The word 'ཀྱང་' (kyang) is a conjunction used to summarize the following words. Secondly, in that unceasing play it says: Essence is emptiness and nature is luminosity, appearance is unceasing and manifests in any way.

E! If the nature of mind is the basis of all samsara and nirvana, then how do samsara and nirvana appear separately from it? Such a nature of mind, its energy manifests uninterruptedly, the self-power of the mind's wisdom, the essence of emptiness, while not moving from emptiness, the clarity and emptiness of self-nature appear inseparably, and the clinging or phenomena will not cease, and everything will appear. In the state of samsara, the names of these three are called mind, intellect, and consciousness. In the state of liberation from suffering, it appears as the Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, and various Nirmanakayas. Therefore, whether it is a pure or impure mind, its essence is unborn emptiness, self-nature is luminous, and it is the basis of all things. In particular, in Tantra, everything is great bliss, although the essence is one, everything will appear from the uninterrupted manifestation. As mentioned above, the word "also" refers to samsara and nirvana, the grasping and the grasped dharmas, which will appear in various ways, such as things falling into different directions. These arise from the Alaya consciousness, from which afflictive mind arises, from which the six consciousnesses arise, from which the fifty-one mental factors arise, etc., appearing uninterruptedly. From this, the phenomena of the container and sentient world appear, and in Tantra, it is said that from luminosity or co-emergence, the winds, channels, and inner and outer bodies will appear uninterruptedly. Regarding the essence and phenomena, the co-emergent nature of mind is the Dharmakaya, and the co-emergent appearance is the light of the Dharmakaya. This is what Gampopa said. The Abhidharmakosha says that the three, mind, intellect, and consciousness, have the same meaning, which is the view of the Hinayana. In the view of the Mahayana, mind is the Alaya consciousness, intellect is the seventh consciousness, and consciousness refers to the six acting consciousnesses. Second, regarding how to be deluded, it is divided into two parts: the Alaya consciousness and the afflicted mind that depends on it, and the order of the six consciousnesses and the five aggregates. The first part is: it does not recognize itself, the acting mind moves, like a wave of water. It is said that the self-nature pure unborn mind, from the uninterrupted manifestation, because its own essence appears as the object and subject, therefore it does not recognize itself, the mind acts on the object, the seventh mind moves, it relies on the movement like a wave of water, and produces the afflictions of grasping and being grasped.
