Understanding the true nature of reality, gaining certainty through thought, and through practice, first achieving accordance, and ultimately, through the yoga of familiarization with realization, directly experiencing and progressing through the stages and paths to attain the great state of Vajradhara, is of utmost importance. Secondly, regarding the clear exposition of the profound inner meaning, this great treatise possessing eleven chapters is summarized by the meaning of the beginning, the meaning of the main body, and the meaning of the conclusion. The first has four parts: paying homage to the glorious and venerable guru, to his form with its attributes, paying homage to the great bliss that is without distinction, and vowing to explain. The second has two parts: establishing the body with its purpose, and summarizing with an extensive explanation of the branches. The latter has eleven sections: first, generally showing the causes and conditions of samsara and nirvana; then, in accordance with the order of arising in existence, the manner in which the body is formed; the channels that reside within it; the winds that flow within it; the bindus that rely on them; the manner in which they relate to the four states of consciousness; integrating the outer world of phenomena internally; aligning with the generation stage of conceptual thought; showing the object of purification and the means of purification as being of the same nature; showing the order of the stages and paths; and finally, showing how these are destroyed and gathered together in relation to the second stage of the order. The third has three parts: explaining the treasury of vidyadharas by way of conclusion; praising and dedicating the activities of the Buddhas and making aspirations; and summarizing the manner in which the composition is completed. Thirdly, there are two kinds of connection: the connection of the nature of what is expressed, and the connection of the treatise that expresses it. The first is as stated in the Later Tantra of the Guhyasamaja: 'The term "tantra" means connection; connection also has three aspects: the basis, the nature, and the result, the distinction of what cannot be taken away. The basis and the nature are the cause, likewise, what cannot be taken away is the result. The basis is the activity of skillful means and wisdom; these three summarize the meaning of tantra.' As such, the three tantras are connected by their nature, relying on truly knowing the true nature of the basis, body, mind, and phenomena, binding the essential points of the stages of the path of maturing empowerments and liberating generation and completion stages, purifying the delusions of the four states, [resulting in] the qualities of the Buddha-nature that cannot be taken away by defilements.

Since the appearance leads to the attainment of the fruit, the ground, path, and fruit are continuously connected. Secondly, if the nature of cause and effect is not understood at first, there will be doubts of being similar to outsiders who believe in no cause, essence as cause, or dissimilar types as cause, etc. Therefore, the section that generally indicates cause and effect is explained first. After that, since it is necessary to enter the ultimate truth by relying on the conventional truth, the second explains the way to accomplish the body, assuming that the basis for purification of the generation stage has been recognized. The body itself also relies on the channels, and in order to grasp the key points of the channels, it is necessary to know the state of the channels, so the third explains the channels. The channels are also accomplished by the winds, and in order to grasp the key points of the winds, it is necessary to know the state of the winds, so the fourth explains the winds. Bindus move within the channels, and in order to grasp the key points of the bindus, it is necessary to know the state of the bindus, so the fifth explains the bindus. Since the four states arise due to the completion of channels, winds, and bindus, the sixth explains the four states. All illusory appearances rely on the body, and the body is also made up of the appearances of the mind, so in order to recognize this, the seventh explains the appearances of the mind. In order to bind illusion, it is necessary to grasp the mind, understand the meaning of inner and outer, and to have power over the form body for the benefit of others, based on these three purposes, the eighth explains the method of binding illusion. The coarse method of binding illusion is not just the generation stage, but there are also methods of practice equal to the number of bases of purification, based on this, the ninth explains the methods of practice. Since the five paths gradually arise in the continuum by practicing the generation and completion stages, the tenth explains the five paths. Finally, since all of these do not go beyond the suchness of the nature of all phenomena, based on entering emptiness, the eleventh explains emptiness. Finally, summarizing the meaning of all these, the reason for the treasury of vidyadharas is explained. Thus, the subject matter, purpose, and ultimate purpose are all such that the latter depends on the former, and if there is no former, the latter will not arise, which is the relationship of this arising from that, like fire and smoke. Thirdly, the detailed explanation of the actual text is divided into three parts: first, praising and promising to explain; second, the actual content of the text; and finally, concluding with dedication. The first part has four aspects: mandala.
