These ways have been explained. Fifth, the eight branches are: The corresponding branches are: Not relying on a consort without vows, not arguing in the assembly circle, not from a consort who has not been declared, accepting the nectar of vows, revealing the secret Dharma at the appropriate time, not answering Dharma questions with jokes, not staying in the Shravaka assembly for seven days, before understanding the wisdom of yoga, not claiming to be a Vajra Holder, not revealing the secret Dharma at an inappropriate time. Violating these are the eight branch transgressions. As it is said, without special need, relying on a consort without vows is the first. At the feet of the fearless hero it says: Completely seizing bliss, I have spoken of the branch transgression. Being pleased to rely on a consort without vows, is the first of the branch transgressions. Thus it is said. In the assembly, being arrogant due to lineage or learning, engaging in Dharma or worldly disputes is the second. Arguing in the assembly circle is, the second of the branch transgressions. Thus it is said. From ordinary women who have not been declared in the tantras and oral instructions, who do not have complete marks, accepting nectar for the cause of pills or the cause of bliss is the third. Not obtaining the mantra practitioner's nectar from a consort who has not been declared, is the third of the branch transgressions. Thus it is said. Similarly, showing symbolic language to those who are not mature is also the third. For secret Dharmas, not showing them in an obscure way to capable vessels is the fourth. Even if one knows the secret Dharma oral instructions, not showing them to others, is shallow wisdom, is the fourth of the branch transgressions. Thus it is said. For capable vessels, when seeking the Dharma, entrusting words to the wind with jokes etc., is the fifth. Deceiving beings with faith when they ask about the Dharma, saying other words, Bodhicitta, is the fifth of the branch transgressions. Thus it is said. Some consider this to be the fourth branch. For Shravaka practitioners who regard the Mahayana as a false Dharma, and for logicians who slander mantra practitioners, staying among them for seven days is the sixth. Spending more than seven days in the Shravaka assembly, is the sixth of the branch transgressions. Thus it is said. Others consider showing vow substances to those who are not mature to be the sixth. Before understanding the wisdom of suchness, claiming to be a Vajra Holder is the seventh.

To know, saying "I am a mantra practitioner" is the seventh branch offense. Others explain that engaging in the activities of the mandala and the actions of a teacher without having done retreat etc. is the seventh. If one knowingly teaches secret Dharma to an unsuitable vessel, it is the eighth, namely: To all sentient beings who are unsuitable vessels, one should teach external Dharma, but if one teaches secret Dharmas, it is the eighth branch offense. Some combine taking nectar without a consort vow and claiming to be a mantra practitioner without wisdom as the eighth. For all of these, if one fabricates with ordinary conceptualization, and knows that it is a fault, and wants to do it that way, and thus the action is completed, it is a gross offense. If any branch is incomplete, it is a minor offense. If there is a special need, there is no downfall. The Great Commentary says: There are many gross downfalls, and the punishment for those downfalls is very light. Thus, it is also said that there are an indefinite number of downfalls. Sixth, the fifteen downfalls of the beginner are: Furthermore, there are fifteen aspects: offerings etc. that are past the time, abandoning one's own deity and taking another, delighting in external worldly deities, clinging to things as truly existent and gross, bestowing empowerment on others without completion, teaching for the sake of this life, despising the lower trainings, showing oneself as superior for the sake of gain, undertaking activities without ability, abiding in idleness without purpose, abandoning affection, delighting in doing inferior actions, wasting time with worldly distractions, abandoning deterioration, abandoning one's own conduct, these are said to be downfalls. Therefore, offerings at auspicious times determined by the waxing and waning of the moon, and the six or four times a day that one must perform mandala offerings and practices, etc., are past the time, and abandoning the main deity and taking other deities, etc., taking and abandoning deities, and considering worldly deities as supreme, and clinging to images of deities etc. as truly existent, and becoming a vajra master without completing empowerment, teaching Dharma that one has not obtained, and teaching secret mantras for the sake of worldly possessions, and despising the lower vows, and claiming to have qualities that one has not obtained for the sake of gain and respect.
