The second song, on taking the essence of human life. Alas, kye hud, a tsa ma na ang! When will the outer world be destroyed by fire and water? The years are also impermanent, rotating in order. The seasons change, the weather turns from hot to cold, and the earth changes its appearance. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, time passes in an instant. Sentient beings are born, age, get sick, and die. Impermanence and change are like ripples in water. All conditioned phenomena that are formed, Not a single one can remain permanent. The end of birth is death, the end of accumulation is collapse. The end of prosperity is decline, the end of gathering is exhaustion. The end of meeting is separation, this is unavoidable. The fully enlightened Buddhas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Arhats, The supreme and common accomplished ones, All must eventually abandon their physical bodies, Who is superior or where is there anyone beyond that? Brahma, Indra, the Universal Monarch, And the rulers of half a continent, the kings of Han (China), Tibet, Mongolia, etc., The great kings must also die, When will ordinary people with little merit die, who knows? Four hundred types of diseases, eight thousand types of obstacles, Uncountable things that harm life and lifespan. Like a butter lamp in the wind, when will it go out? Like a prisoner being led to execution, The years, months, days, and hours pass, and death approaches. When will I meet the Lord of Death, Yama? Medicine and protection, and the clamor of attendants, When will the time come to drink the final soup? Like the sun setting on the top of a western mountain, When will the inevitable moment come? Though there are many relatives and attendants, they have no power to take you away, When will the moment of leaving alone come? Though there are great possessions, there is no power to take provisions, When will the moment of leaving empty-handed come? In an unfamiliar land, wandering alone in an unknown place, When will the moment of not knowing where to go come? Even if the pain is severe, it cannot be shared, When will the moment of bearing the suffering alone come? The stages of dissolution, the appearance of increasing luminosity, cannot be recognized, When will the moment of helplessness come? The three, sound, light, and rays, dissolve, and the peaceful and wrathful deities appear, Like a great sinner surrounded by an army, When will the moment of great fear and dread come? Frightened and terrified, the messengers of Yama lead you away, The innate god and demon speak of good and evil, Lies are useless, the small letters in the clear mirror are visible, When will the moment of regretting past actions come?

Even desiring (immortality), there is nowhere to seek the means of longevity. Yama, the Lord of Death, will distinguish between good and evil. If you don't practice now, regretting it then is just deceiving yourself, meaningless and worthless. If you can't even bear a spark of fire now, the fire of hell is seven times hotter than human fire. If you know you can't die but have to endure eons of torment and burning, what should you do? Ask your own heart. If you can't bear a thin coat for a single winter day, you'll be stuck naked in an icy cave for eons. What will you do if you can't die? If you feel dizzy just keeping silent now, imagine thousands of years without hearing the sound of food or drink. But what if you can't die? If you get a sword for being called an old dog now, what will you do if you're actually reborn as a dog? If you can escape war and enemies now, what will you do if you're born in the land of the Asuras (non-gods)? If you feel pain just from being in a low position now, the suffering of falling from the celestial realm is unbearable. In the three lower realms, there is no room to endure suffering. The happiness of gods and humans is impermanent and changes greatly. Birth, old age, sickness, and death are like ripples on a river. The suffering of samsara is vast and deep, boundless, without a time of liberation, and extremely terrifying. Because of fearing these, avoid evil like poison, rely on the sacred Dharma like medicine, and rely on the Three Jewels like a leader. If you still don't understand the meaning of these words, look at these obvious facts. Even if a great king gathers an army, it's difficult to gather more than ten thousand. Even under his rule, the number of people who have obtained a human body is unlikely to exceed a million. The number of insects on a single mountainside in summer is more than the people under the rule of a great king. The ants in each anthill are more than the army of a great king. See how difficult it is to obtain a human body. Siblings with the same parents, with varying abilities, some rich, some poor and destitute, some short-lived and sickly, suffering greatly, some with few illnesses, long-lived and happy. Having obtained a precious human body, some are strong, some are weak, some are rich, some are starving. This is not a matter of ability or intelligence, see if the karmic results of past lives are true. From the formation of the universe until now, no one has escaped death, nor has anyone found a way. No one has remained alive forever.
