This is the great path as famous as the sun and moon. These practices should be consulted in the treatises of Gyalsay Chojeongwa and his son, as well as the great Bodhisattva Yonten Gyatso and others. Now is the time when the Lord Manjushri gave to the Sakya master, although it is the same as the previous ones in the key points of practice, but in the classification of expression and the order of meaning, it is more excellent than others. That is because when the great Sakya master Kunga Nyingpo was twelve years old, he practiced Manjushri, and after six months he personally saw Manjushri, and the Lord Manjushri personally said: If you are attached to this life, you are not a practitioner; if you are attached to samsara, you have no renunciation; if you are attached to self-interest, you are not a Bodhisattva; if you have attachment, you have no right view. This saying contains all the practices of the Paramitas. The meaning of these words is to abandon attachment to this life, so that the mind turns to the Dharma; to abandon attachment to samsara, so as to walk the path of Dharma; to abandon attachment to self-interest, so as to eliminate the confusion on the road; to abandon attachment to the four extremes, so that confusion appears as wisdom. Among these four, the first is the preliminary practice of leisure and endowment is difficult to obtain, the main practice of death is impermanent, and the branch of the path is the cause and effect of karma. First, cultivate the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, sit comfortably on the cushion, take refuge in the Guru and the Three Jewels many times, and pray in four ways, such as turning the mind to the Dharma. For the benefit of all sentient beings, vow to attain Buddhahood, and then think like this: This leisure and endowment body, in terms of its essence, has eight freedoms and ten endowments, which is difficult to obtain. From the perspective of cause, one must do good deeds, but there are very few good deeds in this mind stream, so it is difficult to obtain. From the perspective of number, in general, among the six realms of sentient beings, the higher the realm, the fewer the beings, and the lower the realm, the more the beings. Even what is seen with one's own eyes, the number of mosquitoes in one summer, and the number of insects living on a piece of wood, exceeds the population of the entire Jambudvipa, so it is difficult to obtain. From the perspective of metaphor, it is like throwing beans at a wall and it is difficult to attach, or in the vast ocean blown by the wind, the turtle's neck stretches into the yoke hole.

It seems even harder than wasting it. Therefore, one must think, having obtained this leisure and opportunity once with great difficulty, one must by no means waste it, but strive for the benefit of future lives and beyond. Second, contemplate impermanence of death: After taking refuge and generating bodhicitta as before, think like this: There is no one who is born and lives freely without dying, so one will definitely die. Moreover, there is no certainty when one will die. The causes of death are many, and the causes of life are few, so one will definitely die. When the time of death comes, no medicine or rituals can prevent it, so death is of no use to anything. After death, nothing illegal, relatives, or enjoyments will follow, so think like this, and abandon attachment to this life. This is the most important method for turning the mind to Dharma, so when eating good food, wearing good clothes, and being surrounded by many people, one should also think: Now I am living like this, but when will I be separated from these things and have to go alone, so it is meaningless, think like this, and abandon attachment to the activities of this life. Third, contemplate the law of cause and effect: After taking refuge and generating bodhicitta as before, since such a rare leisure and opportunity has been obtained, and it is also impermanent, before dying, one must abandon all non-virtue and strive to do as much good as possible. The reason is that the ripening result of committing the ten non-virtuous deeds will lead to rebirth in the three lower realms. The experience of the result that is similar to the cause is that killing leads to a short life, and taking what is not given leads to poverty, and so on. The habitual result is that one becomes accustomed to whatever non-virtuous deed, and then wants to do it again. Moreover, one falls into the lower realms because of that result, and there is no opportunity for liberation. The result of the agent's action is that one is born in a place with a bad smell and dust, so one must definitely abandon it. Similarly, the ripening result of committing the ten virtuous deeds will lead to rebirth in the higher realms, and the experience of the result that is similar to the cause is that abandoning killing leads to a long life, and so on. The habitual result is that one wants to do that virtuous deed. The result of the agent's action is that one is born in a place with a fragrant smell, and so on, so one must definitely strive for it.
