The Key to the Profound Meaning of the Instruction on Mind Training Separating from the Four Attachments. The Key to the Profound Meaning of the Instruction on Mind Training Separating from the Four Attachments. The Key to the Profound Meaning of the Instruction on Mind Training Separating from the Four Attachments, thus the name abides. Whose wisdom, like a celestial path, pervades all that is knowable. Whose compassion, like moonlight, adorns the crowns of beings. Your actions, like a wish-fulfilling jewel, are a treasure that brings forth desired needs. May the unequaled protector, Shakya Singha, bestow goodness upon beings. The wisdom of all Buddhas of the three times, gathered as one, is Manjushri. Who vowed to protect all beings of the three realms, is Avalokiteshvara. To guide beings in the degenerate age, taking the form of a human, is the Sakya lineage. To that one whose name is difficult to utter, I prostrate with reverence. Through the power of merit accumulated in the past, I have obtained a body to practice the sacred Dharma. With wealth spontaneously accomplished, I make offerings to the doctrine and its holders. To that one with a pure and virtuous mind, this is the answer to your repeated questions. The essential instructions of the Great Vehicle, the uncommon, will be spoken here. Thus, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, who without being asked, excellently performs for all the worlds, possessing such a mind. In accordance with the disposition, intention, and latent tendencies of those to be trained, all the collections of teachings spoken are contained within the Paramitayana and the Vajrayana. Of these, the first has two aspects: practice based primarily on explanations from the scriptures, and practice based on the essential points of pith instructions. Considering the practice based primarily on explanations from the scriptures, Lord Maitreya, in the Ornament of Clear Realization, explains the meaning of the Prajnaparamita Sutras as the stages of the path of the eight clear realizations, and in the Ornament of the Sutras, explains the various intentions of the Great Vehicle Sutras, the stages of the path such as inclination towards lineage and Dharma. The noble Nagarjuna, in the Precious Garland of the Middle Way, explains the stages of the path where what is to be attained are the two goals of higher realms and definite goodness, and what accomplishes them are the two, faith and wisdom. And the master Aryadeva, having cut off the obstacles, afflictions, and their causes, to the completion of the bodhisattva's conduct by taking the Buddha as the object, abandoning the four inversions, and having made oneself a suitable vessel for that very nature, the actual practice of that very nature...

The stages of the path for taming the afflictions were taught, and Acharya Shantideva, on the basis of the leisure and endowment of the human body, practiced the nature of the bodhisattva's conduct, the six perfections, and connected them with pure aspirations, and taught the stages of the path to Buddhahood. Also, Lord Atisha, those who abandon attachment to this life and only accomplish the affairs of the next life are inferior individuals; those who abandon the happiness and results of samsara and only accomplish liberation are intermediate individuals; those who accomplish Buddhahood for the sake of sentient beings are great individuals, and he taught the stages of the path of these three types of individuals. And the glorious Chandrakirti, in the state of ordinary beings, cultivated compassion and the mind of enlightenment, and the three non-dual wisdoms, and after attaining the ground of the noble ones, traversed the ten grounds with the ten perfections, and taught the stages of the path to accomplish the three bodies. These are the excellent and wonderful methods that the masters who have attained the realization of the Great Vehicle's teachings have explained without error, but they are to be understood by those who have trained their minds in the scriptures, and are not to be understood here in a small way. Secondly, to practice the meaning of these with the key points of the oral instructions, in general, there appear to be many, but the main ones are those given by Lama Serlingpa to Lord Atisha, and those given by Lord Manjushri to the Sakya Lama. The first is that the difficulty of finding leisure and endowment, the impermanence of death, the law of karma, and the faults of samsara are cultivated as the basis for generating the mind of enlightenment. In the preparatory stage, loving-kindness and long-term compassion are cultivated, and then in the main stage, the mind of enlightenment of exchanging self and others is mainly meditated upon, and when the time is right, the ultimate mind of enlightenment is also meditated upon. As a branch of the path, adverse conditions are transformed into the path of enlightenment. It teaches how to integrate the practice of a lifetime, as well as the measure of the mind's training, the vows of mind training, and the precepts of mind training. By practicing these, it is an excellent path that has small manifestations but great achievements. In Tibet, Lord Atisha did not give this to anyone other than the virtuous friend Dromtonpa, and the Geshe also only gave it to the three precious brothers, and from then on it became very popular, in the land of snow mountains.
