It is because the meaning of desire and hope is obtained, and joy is not regarded as a fault, and because it is free from all evil destinies and possesses the vastness of body and mind being able to function, it is called joy and possessing bliss. Dhyana means to properly approach the object of focus, and to direct mindfulness to one-pointedness, therefore it is called dhyana. First means that, in this way, starting from the desire realm, it is counted according to the order, therefore it is called first. Accomplished means that, generally speaking, it is the result of ultimate yoga. Abiding means that later, having practiced meditation many times, it is obtained as desired, and it is obtained without difficulty, and it is obtained without effort, therefore, with the samadhi of dhyana, one spends the night and day, and day and night, and between seven days and nights, or as long as desired, therefore it is called abiding. The meaning of the second dhyana sutra. Among them, free from vitarka and vicara, means that from the characteristics of samadhi with vitarka and vicara, the mind completely transforms, and the characteristics of samadhi without vitarka and vicara are well established, and it is liberated from the unstable behavior towards the object of focus, and with the stable behavior towards the object of focus, it enters with a calm and clear mind, and establishes, therefore, it is said to be free from vitarka and vicara, and the inner mind is completely purified. The mind stream becomes one, means that because he has completely become accustomed to meditation, the samadhi without vitarka and vicara, which is interrupted by vitarka and vicara, has completely transcended the state of being interrupted and intermittent by vitarka and vicara, therefore he has obtained the state of being uninterrupted and continuous. Therefore, it is said that the mind stream becomes one. Without vitarka and vicara means that because vitarka and vicara have been completely abandoned in all ways, it is called without vitarka and vicara. Born from samadhi means that it is born from the samadhi of ultimate yoga mental activity. Born means that cause and condition

Therefore, that which is called born from samadhi, refers to being correctly born only in that final stage. It is called having joy and happiness because it obtains the meaning of desires and hopes, and does not regard joy as a fault, therefore it is truly endowed with great joy, and because it has inner happiness, and is free from all the faults of the aspect of thought and investigation and affliction of the first dhyana. As its antidote, the mind and body are thoroughly subdued, and because it has workable happiness, it is called having joy and happiness. It is called practicing and abiding in the second dhyana, the word "second" is for counting in order. All the rest should be understood as before. The meaning of the Third Dhyana Sutra is that because attachment to joy has been separated. Because the characteristics of joy are regarded as faults, it is said to have separated attachment to joy. Abiding in equanimity refers to when focusing the mind on the third dhyana without joy, his mind will not be disturbed by the two kinds of faults that completely shake it, namely the thought and investigation of the second dhyana, and the present joy. Therefore, it is said to abide in equanimity, because those two dharmas that completely disturb the mind are obstacles to the mind's continuous abiding in equanimity, so they are called completely disturbing the mind. For the first dhyana, because there are thought and investigation, it will not continuously enter into equanimity. For the second dhyana, because there is joy, it will not continuously enter into equanimity there either. Therefore, the first dhyana and the second dhyana do not have much equanimity, so the third dhyana that enters into samadhi is called abiding in equanimity. It is called mindfulness and awareness, which means that when abiding in equanimity, in whatever way, those thoughts related to joy will not arise, so mindfulness will be maintained. If the third dhyana is not well accustomed, it is because of the ease of forgetting.
