When that is known, the illusion of clinging to self will disappear, just as the thought of mistaking a rope for a snake disappears when the source of the illusion, the mottled rope, is recognized. Therefore, there are also three types of thoughts that cling to self: clinging to a whole self, clinging to a self that eats or enjoys, and clinging to a self that acts or causes. The antidote to the first is the teaching of the five aggregates, because when one realizes that the basis for clinging to self is the five aggregates, one realizes that there is no whole self. The antidote to the second is the teaching of the twelve sense bases, because when one realizes that the basis for clinging to a self that eats is the six internal sense bases, one realizes that there is no self that eats. The antidote to the third is the teaching of the eighteen elements, because when one realizes that the cause or actor is the elements, one realizes that there is no self that is a cause or actor. As it is also said in the "Analysis of the Five Aggregates": 'Why are the aggregates, etc., taught? They are taught in order to be antidotes to the three types of clinging to self, in order. The three types of clinging to self are clinging to oneness, clinging to eating, and clinging to acting.' It is also said that all three are taught as antidotes to clinging to a whole self. For example, the antidote to clinging to a whole self with respect to mental factors is the teaching of the five aggregates, because form and consciousness are each condensed, and mental factors are divided into three aggregates. The antidote to clinging to a whole self with respect to both form and mind is the teaching of the eighteen elements, because form is divided into the ten form elements, and mind is divided into the seven consciousness elements. The antidote to clinging to a whole self with respect to form is the teaching of the twelve sense bases, because form is divided into the ten form sense bases, and mind is condensed into the one mind sense base. The second part is a summary: essence, difference, and classification, number and order must be determined, meaning of words, acquisition, and establishment, aggregates, sense bases, and elements eliminate doubts, the way the three dharmas are each gathered, and the way other named things are also gathered, and detailed classifications, etc., there are twelve key points. First, in terms of essence, the essence of the aggregates is accumulation. The meaning of accumulation is only that it can be gathered together by the mind, but

The accumulation is not about piling up into a heap, but rather it is said to gather forms of different times and natures in one place. But in reality, they cannot be piled up together. As the 'Five Aggregates Differentiation' states: 'Why is it called an aggregate? Because it is an accumulation. It is because of the collection of forms, etc., that differ in time, cause, form, behavior, and place.' This is what the sutra says. The nature of a realm is to hold onto what is near. What is near is the consciousness that arises when approaching an object. It holds onto it through any of the three: place, object, and its own nature. The nature of a source is to become the gateway for the arising of what is near, that is, to become the gateway for the arising of what is near through either place or object. Here, the source of consciousness as a result is not established because, from the perspective of opening the gateway for the arising of what is near, it is included in the source of mind; and from the perspective of what has already arisen, now is not the time to establish it as a source. Second, regarding the divisions, there are three points. Among them, the divisions of aggregates are five: the aggregate of form, the aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, the aggregate of formation, and the aggregate of consciousness. The definition of the first is: the accumulation of many forms that exist in two ways. The two existing forms are the form that can be touched and the form that can be analyzed by the object. The first refers to: when touched by the touch of the hand, etc., it is possible to cause harm, such as sound, touching its cause (such as a drum) can cause harm; for colored roots, touching their support can cause harm. The second refers to: for the consciousness of the mind with discrimination, the form that can clearly appear as 'what is this, what is this, like what, like what', that is, the two types of imputed form and independent form that belong to the category of the dharma source. The definition of the aggregate of feeling is: the accumulation of experiencing happiness, suffering, or neutral feelings. If the meaning of feeling refers to experiencing the object or experiencing oneself, then in either case, will all minds and mental factors become feelings? It is not so, but rather it refers to pleasure, pain, and equanimity as the nature of the result of maturation.
