It is necessary to know and abandon all two incompatible aspects that are contrary to this. Even if the incompatible aspects have been recognized, if virtuous deeds are not practiced, then the merit of discipline cannot continuously increase. Therefore, it is very important to practice virtuous deeds. Because by practicing virtuous deeds, the merit of discipline will increase like the waxing moon. As the "Radiant Sutra" says: "Until the stream of virtue increases." There are also three types: the basis of posadha associated with being all at once; the basis of summer that becomes the cause of prohibition and permission; and the basis of prohibition and permission associated with being occasional. The first is: in the time of every half month, all the past sins are repented, and the future sins are prevented, so that one's own mind is not controlled by sins, thereby abandoning the afflictive dharmas that hold the characteristics of what should be abandoned, which is a method to purify the discipline. The second is: in the three months of summer, promising to stay within a single boundary, holding on with a firm iron hook, thereby protecting oneself and others from harm to body and life, abandoning the distrust of others, repairing broken and damaged dwellings, and performing prohibition and permission as well as rigidity and extension, which is a method to continuously increase the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditating. The third is: in the summer, in order to avoid causing disputes, prohibiting the Sangha from discussing sins, and then extending this permission to all the Sangha in the ten directions, which is a method to make the Dharma and discipline complete and perfect. Thus, practicing virtuous deeds must also be protected by relying on the conditions for peaceful dwelling, because it cannot be protected unless it relies on the conditions that do not prohibit, follow, and are close to ordination, and do not fall into two extremes. Therefore, there are three ways to protect by relying on these: protecting by relying on the conditions for peaceful dwelling such as clothing, protecting by relying on food, and protecting by relying on dwelling. The first is to protect by relying on clothing, which is divided into three types: the first is that clothing is the cause of producing other things, the second is how the color and shape of the clothing itself are suitable, and the sewing and other aspects.

How to prepare the land, and how to bless it with the words of the ritual, how to enjoy wearing the upper garment covering the upper body, and the lower garment covering the lower body, etc. The third is the difference in clothing, whether leather is permissible or not depending on the region and the individual. The second is to protect oneself by relying on food: food should also avoid being too exquisite and too coarse, and one should enjoy suitable, moderate, and blessable food, thereby eliminating hunger, thirst, imbalances of the four elements, and diseases caused by imbalances of the four elements, and abiding in comfort. This is the method of purifying the precepts. According to the order, for things that are suitable to be enjoyed at a certain time, suitable to be enjoyed at a certain time period, suitable to be stored for seven days, and suitable for sustaining life, one must avoid both extremes. Third, relying on the causes of comfortable dwelling, that is, relying on avoiding the two extremes of clothing and food, one should prepare the dwelling properly. Apart from the monastic community's grass mats and leaf mats, for personal variegated colors and the mostly undamaged mats of householders' white colors, one should enjoy them by covering them with mats that have characteristics, etc., thereby avoiding wasting others' property, and also avoiding the extremes of greed and poverty, and the extremes of labor and fatigue. This is the method of purifying the precepts. Third, if (the precepts) are damaged, the method of remedy is: like this, if one protects oneself through the five methods of protection, and if no faults contaminate the continuum, that would be the best. If one is contaminated by transgressions, one must also remedy them. The scriptures say that there are two kinds of excellent people: the first is those who do not commit transgressions, and the second is those who remedy them after transgressions have occurred. Among them, depending on the specific situation, there are two methods: remedying the transgression itself and remedying the disputes caused by the transgression. In the first method, the method of remedy, the basis of remedy, and in these cases, whether there is concealment if one has committed a root offense, thereby determining whether it can be remedied; for the remaining offenses, whether there is concealment, thereby determining whether it is necessary to perform a transfer; for offenses below the level of transgressions, whether there is concealment, thereby determining whether it is necessary to confess the difference, and determining the boundaries of which situations concealment will occur and which situations it will not occur, and summarizing the basis of when and when not concealment should occur, and the
