The ancients said, "Appearing object is present in all consciousnesses. Grasping object is the domain of direct perception. The object of attachment is a special characteristic of conceptual thought. Entering object is present in all that accords with meaning." While the middle two statements are reasonable, the first is not, because non-conceptual mistaken consciousnesses do not have an appearing object. For example, the double moon is the appearing object of the eye consciousness that perceives two moons, but there are no two moons. The last statement is also unreasonable, because the decisive consciousnesses led by two valid cognitions seem to be considered as according with meaning. Therefore, these two decisive consciousnesses do not have an entering object. If there is an entering object, is the entering object of the previous valid cognition its entering object? Or is the later valid cognition, which is similar to the entering object of the previous valid cognition, its entering object? According to the first case, the reasoning "If the meaning is one, then two are meaningless" would cause harm. According to the second case, the decisive consciousness and the two valid cognitions that lead it would become indistinguishable, regardless of whether they are valid cognitions or not. The wise Yakpa considered the view of the 'Treasury of Reasoning' to be that conceptual thought does not have an appearing object. If it did, then conceptual thought, the subject, would necessarily enter its own object through appearance, because it is a consciousness with an appearing object. This statement, when compared with the texts below that state that 'unreal things do not become appearing objects,' seems similar. However, the appearing object divided into appearance and exclusion, and the appearing object divided into four objects, do not have the same meaning. The former is the difference in how a non-conceptual consciousness sees an object, while the latter is merely established as appearing there. Otherwise, conceptual thought, the subject, would necessarily enter its own object through direct power, because it is a consciousness with a real object. This is the same. Furthermore, self-awareness direct perception, the subject, necessarily has an appearing object, because it has an appearing object divided into appearance and exclusion, because it enters its own object through appearance. If the opponent accepts this at the root, then accept it. That, the subject, necessarily has a grasped object, because it has an appearing object. The pervasion is accepted. Therefore, to consider the appearing object divided by appearance and exclusion to be the same as the appearing object that is one of the four objects, and to consider the appearing object and the grasped object to be the same, is a self-contradiction. Our own system is that all non-conceptual, non-mistaken consciousnesses have an appearing object, while non-conceptual mistaken consciousnesses do not have an appearing object, and conceptual thought

All inverted and non-inverted phenomena have an appearing object, because they have the exclusion of others that appears directly to themselves. The object of apprehension is only possessed by the two valid cognitions of meaning and self-awareness. The object of clinging, as a special dharma of conceptualization, is only possessed by conceptualizations that accord with meaning, while conceptualizations of mistaken consciousness do not possess it. For example, sound is permanent, although it is the object of clinging of the conceptualization that grasps sound as permanent, it does not exist. The object of entry exists in valid cognition and in sounds that accord with meaning that are expressive, and in individuals. Fourth, the number of objects is fixed at four, namely, the object of entry of non-conceptual wisdom, the object of entry of valid conceptualization, and three objects established from the perspective of how conceptualization cognizes its own object. The first, for the consciousness of the possessor of an object, it is certain that there are two objects of entry: the object of entry of a different substance and the object of entry of the same substance as the consciousness of the possessor of an object. The first is all three: the object of apprehension, the object of appearance, and the object of entry. The second is the object of appearance and the object of entry. The object of entry of valid conceptualization is the object of clinging and the object of entry. Because the actual object of how conceptualization cognizes an object is only the object of appearance. Second, there are four aspects of the four objects individually. First, there are two types of appearing objects: definition and division. First, some say that what is cognized from appearance is the definition of the appearing object, but others retort: a pot, as a subject, should be the appearing object of the conceptualization that holds a pot, because it is what is cognized from appearance by the conceptualization that holds a pot. The self-system is any object that appears directly either by way of imparting an image or without an image. Second, the division has two types: non-conceptual consciousness and the appearing object of conceptualization. The first has two types: transforming into an appearing object by way of imparting an image, and transforming into it by way of not imparting an image. The first is like the object of apprehension of sense direct perception. The second is like the object of experience of self-awareness direct perception. The appearing object of conceptualization is like the general characteristic of sound being impermanent, which is the appearing object of the conceptualization that grasps sound as impermanent. It is said that non-existent phenomena do not transform into appearing objects, which refers to things that are not measured through appearance. Second, the definition of the object of apprehension is that in self-apprehending direct perception, the actual
