Explanation of the Distinguished System Explanation of the Distinguished System Third, the explanation of the distinguished system is divided into two parts: determining the knowable from a general perspective, and discussing the nature of valid cognition as the knower. The first part is divided into three points: the object of knowledge, the consciousness of the knower, and the way in which that consciousness realizes the object. The first part is divided into two points: definition and classification. The first point is: the definition of an object is what can be cognized by consciousness. Regarding this, some people think that the hair-like appearance that appears in the mistaken sense consciousness is an object, because it can be cognized by consciousness, that is, it can be cognized by the mistaken sense consciousness. If this is admitted, then the object is not necessarily a self-characteristic or a general characteristic. Therefore, some say that what can be cognized by consciousness that does not grasp in a mistaken way is the definition of an object. Regarding this, others say that the hair-like appearance is an object, but it does not have to be either a self-characteristic or a general characteristic, just as consciousness does not have to be valid cognition, and an object does not have to be the object of measurement. This statement is unreasonable, because the hair-like appearance that appears in the mistaken sense consciousness is not an object, because it is not an object in its own nature, nor is it established as an object by a consciousness that eliminates other phenomena. Otherwise, the general meaning and the explicit negation would be the same in terms of whether or not they are objects, because the explicit negation is also an object. If this is admitted, then the statement "Because of clinging to the knowable, there will be no faults for non-existent things" would be contradictory. The former statement is also unreasonable, because the hair-like appearance is an object, because it is the object of the mistaken sense consciousness. The general meaning of the impermanence of sound is what can be cognized by consciousness that does not grasp in a mistaken way, because it is an object. This cannot be admitted, because if it is the consciousness of the object that appears to you, then it must be a mistaken consciousness that confuses appearance and conceptual thought. Furthermore, the permanence of sound is an object, because it can be cognized by consciousness, that is, it can be cognized by the conceptual thought that grasps the permanence of sound. Regarding this, one should also remember the faults mentioned earlier. Second, the classification is divided into three points: refuting other systems, establishing one's own system, and eliminating disputes. The first point is divided into two points: stating the former position and refuting the former position. The first point is: In the Compendium on Valid Cognition, it says: "Both valid cognitions are objects of things, and appearances are different, so it is not reasonable for one, the division of meaning..."

It is said. In that commentary, Master Dharmottara says that the objects of consciousness are of two kinds, namely, the grasped and the adhered to. Conceptual thought grasps the nature of superimposition, and it is the very determination of its own characteristics similar to it. Sense consciousness grasps the moment, and the certainty arising from its power thinks that the continuity of that moment is seen. Among them, the object of grasping is not an object that is entered into by difference, because both enter only into the object of their own characteristics of adherence there. However, the certainty arising from the power of direct perception makes the continuity of the grasped moment the object, and that is also the thing that must be determined, so there is no difference between direct perception and inference in the object of adherence. Therefore, both non-conceptual direct perception and conceptual thought have two objects of adherence and two objects of grasping, and the object of grasping also has both general meaning and self-character. Its intention is that the early Tibetans considered the object of grasping to be of three kinds: the self-character of things, the general meaning, and the absence of manifestation, and their objects also have three kinds: direct perception, conceptual thought, and non-conceptual confusion. However, direct perception has no object of adherence, so there are grasper and grasped objects. Conceptual thought has all four objects. Second, by considering the appearing object and the grasped object to be the same, it prevents both conceptual thought and non-conceptual confusion from having grasped objects. The Great Lord proclaimed two main lines of reasoning. The first is that the two kinds of confused consciousness are phenomena, and should be non-confused consciousness, because they are consciousness with grasped objects. If it is said that it is not pervasive, just like the consciousness of taking a rope for a snake, because there is a grasper object but it is a confused consciousness. It is unreasonable, does the consciousness of grasping the rope refer to the root consciousness that takes the rope as the grasped meaning? Or does it refer to the conceptual thought that thinks this is a snake after that? The former is non-confused consciousness, so it cannot be used as an example of confused consciousness. The latter is confused consciousness because it has no grasped object. The second line of reasoning is that general meaning and absence
