Then it is as if it does not exist. Therefore, all previous consciousnesses are subjects. Moreover, the object of apprehension of the subsequent consciousness exists in that very way, because for that, the subsequent consciousness actually generates the ability to self-grasp. Pervasion: If it is the actual proximate cause of the subsequent consciousness of the self-grasper and is the object of experience of the subsequent consciousness, then the definition of the object of apprehension of the mind, that is, the subsequent consciousness, must be complete. Second, if subtle forms and the sequence of non-proximate minds are not like external objects of apprehension and mental objects of apprehension, then there is a contradiction that yogis will apprehend subtle forms and other minds that are not proximate. If it is said that for forms etc. to become objects of apprehension, it is necessary to appear gross, without interruption, close, etc., and if mind is established as an object of apprehension, it is necessary to be the proximate cause of self-grasping consciousness, then this analysis of the definition of the object of apprehension is only for the partial view of impure minds, and not for noble yogis, because the way noble yogis realize objects is inconceivable. Third, for forms etc., it was previously near, without interruption, and appeared gross, and later became distant, interrupted, and subtle, etc., so that what was previously apprehended becomes non-apprehended, then, the consciousness that grasps forms etc. is a subject. For you, what is the reason that what was previously an object of apprehension becomes a non-object of apprehension because what was previously non-existent, such as gross becoming subtle, etc., has arisen later? It should not change, because it is not corporeal. If you accept, because consciousness does not change into subtle etc., if the subsequent consciousness grasps its own previous consciousness, then the subsequent consciousness is a subject, and it should not realize other objects such as forms, because it will grasp the previous mind that is its immediate cause, therefore. Fourth, in general, things have various powers, not different substances, so they produce various results, especially the previous consciousness has the power to be the cause of the subsequent consciousness and the power to be the object of apprehension, because the natures are different, merely being a cause does not mean that it is an object of apprehension.

In short, all phenomena have the nature of dharma. One thing has many different abilities and entities, or many things have one ability and entity, so it is not possible to produce multiple fruits and single fruits in sequence. Even if one thing does not have many different abilities and entities, or many things do not have one ability and entity, due to its own nature or the nature of dharma, it can produce one fruit and multiple fruits, which has been said before. Some people in our own school say: If it is not that multiple fruits are produced from one cause, but multiple fruits are produced from multiple causes. Then, we have not admitted that multiple fruits are produced from one cause. Like this, it is not that multiple fruits are produced from one cause, nor is it that some fruits are produced from one cause, because whether it is a single fruit or different fruits, they are produced from a collection of causes. If so, does it contradict your view that one cause produces multiple fruits? Cause, has the nature of dharma. It is not contradictory to say that you alone can produce multiple fruits, because you alone are also included in the collection of two causes. For example, a lamp is also included in the three conditions of many people, so it can produce multiple eye consciousnesses. Third, refute that one consciousness holds both things and knowledge. If the later consciousness simultaneously holds the appearance of things, etc., and the previous consciousness, then wouldn't there be the fault of not transferring to other objects? When two letters such as "A" and "I" are spoken without interruption, considering the later letter "I", etc., for a single meaning mind, it has the nature of dharma. Always, that is, necessarily, the statement of sequential appearance will become that the two letters "A" and "I" appear not sequentially but simultaneously. Because the previous letter "A" appears as the object of the previous consciousness, and at the same time, the later letter "I" appears as its own object. Therefore, there will be such a fault. And, one thing, has the nature of dharma. It will appear twice, because the consciousness that knows itself and the later consciousness that knows that consciousness will also appear. Fourth, refute that there is no later experiencer at the time of transfer, divided into two parts: presenting the inference, refuting the avoidance of fault. The first part is: As an answer to the view established by Master Dignāga, if there is no self-awareness, then if the later consciousness experiences the previous consciousness, there will be the fault of endless experiencers.
