It is for establishing different terms. Third, if asked: Then, on the basis of validity, how are the two definitions of non-deception and knowledge determined? As a universally expressed validity, it is a dharma, because from self-awareness, it is understood that it is the meaning of knowing one's own nature, so it can lead to the determination that self-experience and self-awareness are the meaning of knowing oneself. This shows that in all universally expressed validities, for the aspect of knowledge, which is a part of the definition, it is self-known. Moreover, self-aware direct perception implicitly shows self-knowledge in the aspect of non-deception, which is a part of the definition, because the determination of the object to be taken is drawn by one's own power, and the determination of the aspect of non-deception in it is also drawn by one's own power, and these two points are the same. If it is thought that because it is not different from knowledge, can the determination of non-deception also be drawn by one's own power? As a universally expressed validity, it is a dharma, from the term of determination of mind, that is, from the subsequent ascertainment, the meaning reverse of validity, that is, non-deception, is determined, because when the subsequent ascertainment determines that the object to be taken is non-deceptive, the term of validity is established. If asked: Then, is this ascertainment drawn by one's own power or by the power of others? As the verse says: Meaning clear and self-clear, inference is determined by oneself, initial consciousness and distrust, confusion is caused by others. It should be understood as such. Most Tibetans think that the former only shows self-knowledge, and the latter only shows other-knowledge, which seems to be not distinguishing the difference between establishing self-knowledge and other-knowledge on what basis. Moreover, it seems that they do not understand that the validity of self-knowledge and other-knowledge is only established on the universally expressed validity. What is said here is different from the explanation of Jamyang Sakya, and in this, the aspect of knowledge is the meaning reverse, not the term, and the important difference that "is validity" is also the meaning reverse, not the term, has been explained in the general meaning. If asked: If knowledge arises from oneself, and non-deception arises from terms, then wouldn't the treatises on validity become meaningless? The treatises on validity are dharma, not meaningless, because if one does not understand the definition of universally expressed validity, one cannot establish the Bhagavan as validity, therefore, it is necessary to dispel the ignorance of validity and the definition of validity, and to realize it without confusion.

If someone says that some parts of the Pramāṇavārttika contradict the statement "clarifying the unknown meaning," there is no contradiction. Because clarifying the unknown meaning is also the same as the former meaning, it is the definition of valid cognition (pramāṇa). The Svātantrika school considers the definition to be different, and the Alaṃkāra school considers the object of the definition to be different, which has been refuted in the Tshad ma rigs gter. Some people think that the former represents Dharmakīrti's own system, and the latter represents Dignāga's system, which has been refuted in the general meaning. If someone asks, does this not pervade the valid cognition that proves negation? In response, Indians and some Tibetans answer that the basis of negation itself, or the nature of the dharma to be negated, or the object-aspect of cognition itself, is shown as the object, so there is no fault. But Jetsun Sakya Paṇḍita said: "It is reasonable to examine whether the own-character exists or not." It will be explained below. If someone asks, then after the direct perception of the own-nature of blue, etc., the consciousness that holds the general characteristic of blue should become valid cognition, because it clarifies the unknown meaning, that is, because it is the consciousness of the general characteristic that was previously unknown by direct perception. In response, it is said that although it is a newly known general characteristic of blue, it will not become clarifying the unknown meaning, because whatever newly knows the previously unknown existence or non-existence of its own-character is the definition of valid cognition, which is the intention of that definition. Why? Because the own-character, if it is a conventional valid cognition, then it is necessary to know either your existence or non-existence, because the certainty derived from it will discriminate between either your existence or non-existence. Third, the Bhagavan (World Honored One) is a valid person, because not deceiving the benefit of those to be tamed is a person with this nature. Most Tibetans explain both as having the meaning of definition, because the former treatises determined the meaning of valid cognition in the sutra's praise, and the latter treatises did not understand the meaning of avoiding contradiction with other treatises. Second, explaining the necessity of saying "becoming," there are three points: In order to refute self-arising, "becoming" is said; it is established that valid cognition depends on means; and a detailed explanation of refuting self-arising. First, it is enough to praise "is valid cognition," why say "becoming"? Because "becoming" is said in the sutra's praise.
