Therefore, from that, realizing that the expressed object of one's own clinging is not valid cognition, because it is the cause of the meaning of the expressed object of one's own clinging, i.e., because it is not the result. Second, if it is said that the definition of valid cognition, "non-deceptive," has the fault of being too pervasive, because conventional consciousness is non-deceptive. Then, like the conceptual thought on the general characteristic of a vase, etc., which is led by the direct perception of the vase, this conventional knowledge, as the subject, is not accepted as being non-deceptive with respect to the vase, because it apprehends by adding onto the vase that has already been grasped by the direct perception of the vase that is its guide. Third, the Vaibhashikas say that the definition of valid cognition, "knowledge," has the fault of being impossible, because it is impossible on the basis of valid cognition, the corporeal sense faculty. Then, the consciousness that cognizes the object to be measured is valid cognition itself, but the corporeal sense faculty, etc., are not valid cognition, because the result of valid cognition has two results: the result of decision and the result of offering. From the first, knowing the meaning of the objects to be taken and those to be rejected, and thereby engaging in taking and rejecting, consciousness is the main thing, but the sense faculty, etc., are not. And, if there is consciousness that has the aspect of its own object to be measured, then there is the second result, the understanding of the meaning. If not, then even if the sense faculty, etc., exist, they are useless. The latter reason is established, because the consciousness that has the aspect of the object, merely by existing differently, establishes the difference in the name of the understanding of the meaning of consciousness. Third, then, how are the two definitions, "non-deceptive" and "knowledge," ascertained on the basis of valid cognition? The conventionally nominal valid cognition, as the subject, is the understanding of the meaning that knowing its own nature is knowledge from self-awareness, because the self-experiencing self-aware direct perception is able to lead to the certainty that it is knowing itself. This shows that all conventionally nominal valid cognitions are self-known in the aspect of the part of the definition, "knowledge," and the self-aware direct perception is self-known in the aspect of the part of the definition, "non-deceptive," because the certainty about the object to be entered is brought about by itself, and the certainty about the non-deceptive part there is brought about by itself, and these two points are the same. Then, is it thought that because it is non-different from knowledge, certainty about non-deception can also be brought about by itself? The conventionally nominal valid cognition, as the subject, certainty is from the subsequent cognition after the name of consciousness, but not from

The meaning of valid cognition is definitely non-deceptive, because subsequent ascertainment is definitely non-deceptive in the object it engages with, hence it is designated as valid cognition. So, does this ascertainment lead by its own power or by the power of others? As it says: "Two of meaning-awareness and two of self-awareness, inferences are determined by themselves. Do not rely on the first and the mind, those with causes of error are determined by others." Thus, it should be understood. Most Tibetans think that the former only shows self-determination and the latter only shows other-determination, which seems to not distinguish the difference of establishing self-determination and other-determination on what basis. Moreover, the valid cognition of self-determination and other-determination also seems to not understand the way of establishing it only on the valid cognition that is universally designated. What is said here is unlike other explanations of Jamyang Sakya. Moreover, in this, the aspect of knowing is the non-deceptive nature, not the designation, and the important difference that "it is valid cognition" is also the non-deceptive nature, not the designation, has already been explained in the general meaning. So, if knowledge is from oneself and non-deception is determined by designation, then will the treatises on valid cognition become meaningless? The treatises on valid cognition, the subject, are not meaningless, because if one does not know the definition of universally designated valid cognition, one cannot establish the Bhagavan as valid cognition, so it is necessary to dispel ignorance of valid cognition and its definition and to realize it without being mistaken. Secondly, is it contradictory to what is said in some parts of Dignāga's treatises, "clarifying the unknown meaning"? It is not contradictory, because the clarifier of the unknown meaning is also the same as the former meaning, so it is the definition of valid cognition. Lha considers a different definition, and Ornament considers the defined and the definition different, which has been refuted in the Treasury of Reasoning. Some people think that the former shows Dharmakīrti's own system and the latter shows Dignāga's system, which has already been refuted in the general meaning. Does this not pervade the valid cognition of negation? In response to this, Indians and some Tibetans answer that the object of negation itself, or the object itself of the negated dharma, or the apprehended aspect itself of conceptualization, is shown as the object of engagement, so there is no fault. However, Jetsun Sakya said: "It is reasonable to examine whether self-character exists or not." It will be explained below. So, under the direct realization of the self-nature of blue, etc., blue
