Furthermore, regarding the non-perception of the nature of wood, as the subject. On a certain basis, taking the absence of deer as the nature of the mere meaning of wood as the sign, then this sign is correct. Because the three aspects of establishing it are complete. That is to say, if it exists on the basis, then by means of some non-perceived reasons of the cause and pervasion that are possible to see, it is possible to realize that the result and the pervaded do not exist, otherwise it is not possible. If the cause and pervasion that are possible to see are not perceived, then it is not pervasive because the result and the pervaded do not exist. Second, for things that are possible to appear, such as a vase, when the cause of not seeing, such as obscuration, is impossible, as the subject. If the object of the vase that is possible to appear exists, then from the sign of not being perceived from what should be perceived, it is possible to realize that the object of the vase that is possible to appear does not exist on the basis. Because if the vase that is possible to appear is not perceived, then it pervades non-existence. Second, for cold touch, as the subject. Taking the perception of the contradiction that you do not coexist with it as the sign, then it is certain that you do not exist on the basis. Because even if there is a contradictory thing that does not coexist with you, it is harmful to your existence. Third, there are five: Holding the three meanings to establish non-contradiction, refuting that sound and meaning are self-characterized, refuting sound and meaning becomes a fault, showing that the object of investigation is only self-characterized, dispelling the concern of contradicting the scriptures. First, some say that if the non-perception of the sign prevents the establishment of existence, if it becomes the establishment of non-existence, then the sign that Dignāga said, "The principal is not existent, because it is not perceived," then it becomes not a non-perceived sign, because it cannot establish the establishment of non-existence or cannot prevent the establishment of existence. If the principal exists, then it cannot be prevented, and the word "does not exist" is unreasonable. If it does not exist, then because the subject does not exist, that sign has no basis, and the word "principal" cannot be applied. If you say so, then the Dharma of sound and meaning that is completely established by the conceptual thought arising from the previous habits since beginningless time, that is, the superimposed, as the subject. There are three forms, namely, existence depends on the real, non-existence depends on the unreal, and both depend on the knowable. Therefore, it is unreasonable to apply the word "does not exist" to the reason stated by the teacher, and the subject does not exist.

There is no fault. Among sound, meaning, and existence, in order to establish the sound meaning of the non-substantial "chief," if it is thought that the "chief" does not appear as having a substantial proximate cause, then what is the reason for establishing it in this way? Because the sound meaning of "chief" itself is not non-existent, because there is the combination of the word "chief." The second case is: if the sound meaning of "chief" exists, then the "chief" must necessarily not have its own characteristic, because all sounds are ultimate, and necessarily completely point to their own characteristic, so the sound meaning and the own characteristic are one. If it is thought in this way, then for different observers seeing different things as permanent and impermanent, such as vases, etc., as the subject, the words "permanent" and "impermanent" will necessarily not be used. Because the reason for using these two words, that is, both permanent and impermanent do not exist. For the past and the unborn, also as the subject, the word "present" will necessarily not be used, because the present does not have its own characteristic. Some words, as the subject, will necessarily not become the bearers of false meanings, because they point to their own characteristic. Because these faults will occur, these sounds, as the subject, are considered to be the objects of meaning appearing from the mind, because any expression will not directly point to its own characteristic. The third case is: if it is said that the reason stated by the teacher is not to negate the own characteristic of the "chief," but to negate that the sound meaning of the "chief" itself does not exist, then, for denying the sound meaning of the "chief," and wanting to establish non-existence with a reason, according to their view, the reason used to establish the non-existence of the "chief," as the subject, the subject, the collection of the sound meaning of the "chief" and the property "non-existence," will not become your thesis, because the sound meaning of the "chief" as the basis of the property has been canceled by you. If it is admitted, thinking that "non-existence" itself is the thesis, then the universal "non-existence" not distinguished by the "chief," as the subject, because the "chief" is not admitted, in the view of the opponent, it is not the thesis of the reason, because the opponent has already established it. The fourth case is: if the non-existence of the sound meaning of the "chief" is not denied, but it is thought that it is the object of designation of the word "chief," then, the "chief," as the subject, you yourself
