If one cultivates emptiness with proliferation, it leads to belittling the results of actions, falling into proliferating emptiness, and these four mistakes should be avoided. These emptinesses fabricated by the mind are not unsuitable for beginners, but should be abandoned in the end. After that, one should strive to cultivate the nature of whatever arises without grasping, freely, without acceptance or rejection, elimination or retention. Twenty-eighth session. Furthermore, if one becomes fond of meditating on thoughts and afflictions, etc., the thoughts will become like brothers, not diminishing but violently shaking, leading to laziness. The thoughts that arise as enemies should be regarded as benefactors, and by placing them in their own nature without grasping, they will be eliminated. Regarding afflictions as enemies, and seeing all phenomena as without inherent existence and belittling the results of actions, is regarding emptiness as an enemy. Clinging to the clear and bright appearances of various phenomena, and feeling uneasy and agitated about them, is regarding appearances as enemies. Also, because one possesses some qualities, one sees that others do not have faith and compassion (33), do not have the qualities of emptiness, and therefore feels pity for them, thinking, "I will benefit them," but abandons one's own virtuous practice and engages in it without accomplishment, is regarding compassion as an enemy. Without settling on a view, one presumptuously wants to become omniscient, engaging in minor tasks such as phonetics, logic, crafts, etc., and abandoning samadhi, is regarding the thoughts of cause and effect as enemies. These five situations, whenever these thoughts arise, one should look at their own nature and abide without acceptance or rejection, negation or affirmation, and thus they will be eliminated. Similarly, the faults of meditation, such as agitation, dullness, sinking, and other faults, as well as illnesses, demonic influences, obstacles to samadhi, and hunger, disease, suffering, special experiences, and realizations, whatever arises, one should abandon attachment and aversion, look at its own nature, and remain in its natural state, and thus it will naturally subside. Alternatively, observe the color, shape, etc., of the arising, abiding, and dissolving of thoughts, illnesses, demonic influences, etc. Alternatively, practice giving and receiving (Tonglen) for illnesses, etc. Alternatively, view the various manifestations of illnesses, etc., as the Nirmanakaya, awareness as the Sambhogakaya, emptiness as the Svabhavikakaya, and these three as inseparable Dharmakaya. This is a combination of removing obstacles and increasing merit. There are many other methods for removing obstacles and increasing merit, but they are all contained within this. Twenty-sixth session. Second, the way qualities arise is
