The eyes and ears should be perked up, and the body should walk as tautly as a four-legged animal. Meditating with proper restraint is like identifying a thief in a crowded market, or counting horses with a telescope, like walking on a single-plank bridge, or focusing like filling a container with butter. Relaxation is like abandoning the effort of meditation. In reality, abandonment is to let everything go into non-fabrication and selflessness, just remembering slightly, for a moment. The session can also be lengthened slightly, relaxing the body and mind, like feeling relieved after finishing work, or letting go after recovering from illness, or like a rope completely broken, or like a child who is full, or like the sun and moon free from clouds, or like a lamp free from wind. The faults of sinking and agitation of these two (focus and relaxation) should also be eliminated separately. This is the thirty-seventh Dharma session, the thirty-second object of focus. These points from "ka" to "na" here do not necessarily need to be taught in order, exactly as they are, but for those who have had similar experiences, thoughts, understandings, etc., the methods of eliminating obstacles and enhancing experience should be taught. Moreover, as mentioned above, by asking questions, the appropriate methods should be taught separately according to his capacity and the way signs appear. If one only talks to those who do not practice but only seek fame, that is also acceptable. If it is necessary to emphasize the explanation, one can only teach one aspect in the manner of scriptural authority, but if one explains in detail from the beginning, saying that this is how it will appear, then those with Dharma connections will become arrogant, and it will even hinder others from guiding them later, so one should teach knowing the capacity and timing. Also, some people, when meditating, want to have good experiences, so they artificially create a special state of clarity and emptiness to meditate, which is called "rainbow meditation." If this happens before the introduction, it will lead to a lack of understanding of meditation. If someone considers himself a teacher or someone with Dharma connections, if his words do not match pleasant speech, he will be unhappy and engage in corrective meditation, which is a great obstacle, just as one cannot reach the top of the stairs without climbing from the bottom. To eliminate this obstacle, abandon expectations, do not meditate deliberately, do not fabricate, and maintain ordinariness.

Therefore, if it only becomes dull and does not become strong, it is called "sharpness." Also, some guides say, "This mind is the Buddha, do not transform it, abide (in it)." In this way, his own scattered thoughts think that he is the Buddha, so he hopes that the differentiated thoughts become coarse, and hopes that the experience becomes like wine, even more so than before. To this, generate armor and diligence, and practice without distraction for a moment. Do not raise the voice of the Dharma, it should be called "relying on practice." ག Also, even if a good samadhi arises, if it is not guarded and let go, it is called "ownerless samadhi." To this, guard the nature, work harder to practice, this is called "practice." Also, sometimes very happy, sometimes very frustrated. After that, (samadhi) declines, feels bored, imitates the previous (samadhi), but samadhi does not arise, so it is very painful, if the armor is too strong, the qi channels will gather; if the armor is weak, it will combine with some happy dharmas and leave. To this, in bad times, do not desire good, but observe the bad experience itself, and guard it, because guarding the bad is easier than guarding the good, and it is easier to tame, so this is called "skillful." Also, just after settling down, it seems that the "samadhi" must be adjusted. If you adjust it, or fall into the downstream of differentiated thoughts, it will become more dull. To this, do not adjust that discomfort, but observe it itself, just like untying a knot, it will become relaxed and comfortable, this is called "comfortable." Also, I didn't realize that differentiated thoughts were flowing. He himself thought he was not distracted. After a while, I realized that something had just flowed, but I didn't realize it, and I felt bad, so I worked hard for the previous (state) and pulled it back, which is called "destroying samadhi." To this, the caller will not return. The caller is also a differentiated thought, and recognition is also a fundamental mistake, so this is called "samadhi iron hook." Also, some people even if they realize that differentiated thoughts are flowing, they think that they are empty, so they recite the word "phaṭ" and let the differentiated thoughts go. That will be even more dull. To this, it is best to observe the mind itself of "I am distracted" at the moment when you realize that differentiated thoughts are flowing. Even if you don't do it, don't regret it, relax whenever you remember it, and it will naturally untie like untying a knot. Also, some people interrupt (practice) just a little bit without being distracted. Also, relaxation is like waiting for fish in the water, which is called "negligence," and the thief of differentiated thoughts is not realized. This is the fault of being too relaxed, so this is called "dull awareness."
