Me. High and low are determined by circumstances and friends. This refers to those who have renounced and practice celibacy (Tibetan: ཚངས་པར་སྤྱོད) as an example, and those who pride themselves on being great practitioners, focusing wholeheartedly on the meaning of meditation. Before their discipline and meditative practice are firm, they only pursue superficial goodness. No matter what kind of monk they are, they will expose their own shortcomings of being sometimes high and sometimes low because they rely on objects of attachment and aversion and friends. Here, "Brahma" (Tibetan: ཚངས་པ་) refers to Nirvana. Because one practices with Nirvana as the goal, it is called Brahmacharya. Root: The teacher's grace can bring merit to others, and one will not lose asceticism, beggars regard it as a wish-fulfilling jewel, and the only thing that is in harmony with it is begging. This is to say that those who want to accomplish the benefit of themselves and others should abandon attachment to all possessions. Relying on the teacher's grace, through begging, one can bring merit to the object of begging, and one will not lose the asceticism of the three studies. The wish-fulfilling jewel in the eyes of beggars is begging that is in accordance with the Dharma. Root: Stealing a living by extremely impure means, seeking more with what is gained, flattery, hypocrisy, and the five wrong livelihoods measured by gain, will defile the practice of the upright. Therefore, good dwelling and living, as well as good friendship and association, can inspire courage. Here, five wrong livelihoods are specifically pointed out: In order to receive alms, repeating miserable words in front of others, or hiding the fact that one has food and clothing, and stealing all the wealth obtained by impure means in a state of poverty. Seeking more with what is gained refers to various means of exchanging a small amount of food, drink, and wealth for more returns. Flattery refers to skillfully proclaiming one's various advantages, hiding one's shortcomings, falsely accumulating vast good deeds, and deceiving others to obtain benefits. Hypocrisy refers to showing off one's peaceful, humble, and upright behavior in front of others when one's own protection of precepts is impure, or pretending to treat the eight dharmas (gain, loss, ruin, fame, praise, ridicule, suffering, and happiness) equally, and showing off one's vulgar, unpretentious, and ruined behavior to obtain benefits.
