This is when there is no leisure. Root text: The eon abandoned by the Buddhas, falling into a dark abyss, even if one strives to rise again, it is not the right path, but the norm, sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss of suffering. This is to say that the period during which the teachings of the thousand Buddhas of the Fortunate Aeon exist is the Bright Aeon, and when the teachings decline, it is the Dark Aeon abandoned by the Buddhas, like a dark abyss. Born and raised there, entering the norm of the wrong path, like a person with a broken leg falling into a waterfall at night, sinking deeper and deeper, unable to escape, is when there is no leisure. Then, although it is not explicitly stated in the root text of this treatise, it is said in the commentary that even if one obtains a human body at this time, there are sixteen situations in which there is no leisure, as follows. In the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel, it says: The five poisons are in turmoil, ignorance is possessed by demons, the lazy person, the ocean of evil deeds overflows, being controlled by others, pretending to be a practitioner to protect oneself, sudden events lead to no leisure, there are eight kinds. Not a vessel for the Dharma of the path of liberation, completely reversed. This is to say that the five poisons are stronger than each other, disturbing the mind like a flood, connecting the mind with unwholesomeness. One's own mind is foolish and ignorant, controlled by evil friends. Meeting with the evil knowledge of demons leads to completely reversed views and behaviors. Although there is a little interest in the Dharma, one is a lazy person without diligence. The ocean of evil deeds overflows, referring to the occurrence of adverse conditions such as struggles, lawsuits, and evil words, not knowing how to transform them into the path, but instead becoming obstacles. Although there is a desire to enter the Buddhist gate, the body and speech are controlled by others. Only seeking self-protection for food, clothing, and taxes, pretending to enter the Buddhist gate, but only focusing on non-Buddhist thoughts and behaviors. The mind is contrary to the Dharma, but pretending to be a practitioner to cater to others, in order to gain fame and fortune. Again, it is said earlier: Stinginess binds, behavior is extremely bad, not weary of samsara, without the slightest faith, not doing good, doing evil deeds, not thinking of the Dharma, breaking vows and samayas, this is the lack of leisure of cutting off the mind of good karma, there are eight kinds. Far from the Dharma, extinguishing the lamp of the path of liberation. This is also to say that not using wealth and utensils for offerings and donations, being very stingy. Because of bad character, both thoughts and behaviors are like demons. Regarding the cycle of

Even if one hears about faults and shortcomings, one does not generate renunciation and regret. Regarding faith, which is the gateway to perceiving the Dharma, there is absolutely none. The three doors of body, speech, and mind are extremely coarse, and one spends one's time solely with misdeeds. Even if one sees or hears the qualities of the Three Jewels, one does not generate respect and reverence. Although one boasts of having entered the Buddhist teachings, one is indifferent to the violations of the three vows. Therefore, it is very important to strive to eliminate these faults and promote favorable conditions. Root verse: In places where sins and sufferings rage like storms, Labor and fear accompany impure merit. Jealous of the Dharma, the eight unfree states. Reflecting on this, make your leisure meaningful. This means that, driven by sinful actions, if one is born in the eight unfree states where suffering rages like storms, one is ignorant of the means to attain happiness in both this life and the next, and one diligently creates the causes of suffering. Therefore, impure merit accompanied by labor and fear refers to non-meritorious actions, the ten non-virtuous deeds. These are contrary to the Dharma, so they are described as "jealous." Reflecting on the faults of such unfree states and the qualities of leisure and endowment, make your leisure human body meaningful, this is the instruction. Root verse: In the central sacred land, like pure ground, with complete faculties, limbs fully endowed, and faith in the objects of faith. The flower of virtuous action, uncorrupted by sin, To be born as a human, a wish-fulfilling tree, is extremely rare. The Victorious Udumbara flower appears in the world, Opening the flower of Dharma, establishing the garden of teachings. Abiding without decline, and truly entering. Relying on the shade of the holy ones is even rarer. This means the five personal endowments and the five other endowments. First, the five personal endowments: in the central region where the holy Dharma flourishes, like pure ground, with complete faculties, without defects in the limbs, and with faith in the objects of faith, and so on. Not being born into a lineage of soldiers, merchants, hunters, fishermen, etc., who commit evil deeds and have little opportunity to enter the Dharma, this is called "the flower of virtuous action, uncorrupted by sin." To be born as a human body is like a wish-fulfilling tree, which is very difficult to obtain, this is illustrated with a metaphor. That is, obtaining a human body, being born in a place where the Dharma flourishes, having complete faculties, being free from evil deeds, and having faith in the Dharma, these five are the five personal endowments. Second: the faults of samsara.
