As shown by the example of light. Having understood the meaning of such a method, perform the seven-branch offering, and finally dissolve the clear refuge into oneself, and abide in non-objectification. Then, the expulsion of obstacles: there are two types, the true and the nominal. According to the former, having killed other beings in previous lives, there are many harms to life in this present life; having been beaten, there are many illnesses; having robbed, there is poverty, etc. These are obstacles belonging to karmic debts or blood feuds. Other than that, male demons and kings are born from the hatred of one's own mind; female demons from desire; Naga demons from ignorance. The demons arising from these are inconceivable. However, if summarized, there is not a single illusion that does not arise from one ignorance, just like sleep and dreams. After practicing the actual signs of destroying obstacles, contemplate the five desirable qualities: beautiful form, pleasant sound, fragrant smell, sweet taste, and soft touch, like the inexhaustible treasures of space, so that until samsara is empty, all those to whom offerings are given will be satisfied and have the power to do so. Recite ཧྲཱིཿ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ह्रीः, Romanized Sanskrit: hrīḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Shame). Expel obstacles with the mandala manifested by the environment and beings. At this time, visualize oneself as the embodiment of the great teacher Padmasambhava, manifesting as the wrathful Hayagriva of the lotus family, extremely red like the fire of the end of an eon, fierce and difficult to bear, with one face, two arms, three eyes, and four fangs bared, with reddish-yellow hair standing on end, adorned with five dry skulls, with a greenish-black horse head neighing loudly at the top, subduing the three realms and overwhelming the three existences. Adorned with fear by the nine dance postures, the eight charnel ground garments, and so on. Trampling the perverse spirits with the posture of a giant with two feet. The right hand holds a flaming staff adorned with a human head, threatening and destroying. From the threatening mudra of the left hand emanate countless small wrathful deities, contracting and expanding, causing the perverse spirits to be frightened, abiding in the midst of the unbearable fire of the eon with the power of asceticism, firmly holding pride, giving food, and explaining the truth is also useless. Those who have become harmful again are driven away like a flock of birds being driven away by stones, or like sheep and goats being driven away by severe hail, to the far shore of the great ocean.

Although the distinctions of distances such as "yojana," "krosha," and "bow's length" are mentioned, here, the thought is to drive them to the places of the ten lands that have been subdued and the seven losses, etc., which have become common and individual adversaries. This also includes the meaning of pointing out the road to the enemy, so is it appropriate to do so? If, in the ultimate sense, there were a real thing called "obstacle," would it be necessary to have something visible like a person or livestock? But there doesn't seem to be such a thing. If it is a non-existent thing, then a non-existent thing cannot destroy things, just as the sky cannot destroy other elements. One cannot destroy anyone with just one's own non-existent thoughts. Therefore, understand that obstacles arise from the grasping of self and other. The one who grasps as an obstacle and the two kinds of thoughts that arise as the obstacle to be grasped are like the state of being freed from fear after mistaking a speckled rope for a snake and mistaking the fog in a mountain pass for a person. Therefore, in the provisional meaning, obstacles and all other conventional dharmas exist in the way they are; but in the ultimate meaning, they do not exist. But it is also not the case that they do not exist like the former, because they do not fall into any extreme and are free from clinging to extremes. The protection wheel also has two aspects: conventional and ultimate. The first is that on the impure ground that appears within the realm of samsara, such as earth, stones, mountains, and rocks, in an inconceivable state, on that ground filled with vajra particles, there is a vajra tent like an overturned iron helmet. Above that is a vajra banner, and outside of that is a vajra fence like the iron walls of a castle, a vajra net covering the outside of the tent, in the shape of a cross, with all the spaces filled with tiny crosses. On top of that is a fence that spreads out like that, and there is a peak at the top. The peak is a vajra crest, and just looking at it, the eyes are burned by the blazing rays of light. Outside the vajra fence, from the five directions of the essence of the five consorts, from the east, west, north, south, and center, with karmically aligned flames, having the power to burn all the places of the five-colored world, in the form of a wrathful child, sparks of fire radiate, incinerating even the evil guides like bird feathers burned by fire. In short, one should contemplate it as a protective wheel that cannot be exploited by any harmful force, and that destroys the armies of demons and their troops.
