It is named as causing joy like rain falling on the crops of farmers who make everything happy. Homage to the Three Jewels! The meaning is: What is rare in this world? The Udumbara flower is rare. Even rarer than that is the Buddha appearing in the world. Even rarer than that is teaching the sacred Dharma such as the Secret Mantra Vajrayana. And the Sangha of noble beings who uphold this Dharma, possessing both wisdom and liberation, is also rare. For example, all kinds of precious jewels, especially the wish-fulfilling jewel king, are rare, but compared to that, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, must accumulate merit and purify obscurations for countless three great asamkhyeya kalpas in order to attain the state of Buddhahood, so there is nothing rarer than that in this world. Paying homage to these three is also for the sake of Je Tsongkhapa's writing of treatises without obstacles and being able to complete them perfectly. The explanation of homage is: with the manifestation of faith and reverence, with the hand forming a mudra like a lotus flower opening, placing it in three places, meaning to pay homage in order to purify the obscurations of the three doors of body, speech, and mind. The three jewels are: the teacher, the supreme Buddha jewel, the protector, the supreme... the guide, the supreme... This is a well-known letter, which, except for the eight unfavorable conditions, can reach all places for those who have the fortune and karma. For example, a letter sealed with the seal of a great king cannot be resisted no matter who it is sent to among his subjects. This story is: Once upon a time in Varanasi, there was a merchant named Norchen, whose wife was named Sonam Ken Rinchen Den. When the five masters passed away, this woman, by the merit and karmic result of making a necklace decoration on top of a huge stupa, was born as the daughter of the King of Samgala. She became fat and ignorant due to her past stinginess, slandered offerings, and eventually became a servant for a long time due to the karmic result of extreme stinginess. When she was reborn into the Shakya family as a servant named Rohita, a wife and a servant of the Shakya clan went to hear the teacher's teachings, at that time the queen...

When a maid was sent to retrieve a pearl necklace left at home, she regretted having to go without listening to the Dharma. The Teacher, knowing this, gave her a verse. As she went along the road reciting the verse, she was struck and killed by a cow. When she was reborn as the daughter of the King of Samgala, a rain of pearls fell, so she was named Pearl Woman or Pearl Vine. Later, due to her merit, merchants from Shravasti crossed the ocean and arrived in Samgala. At night, they heard verses spoken by the Buddha being sung, and the girl was captivated and said, "Sing that again." They said, "This is not a song, but the words of the Teacher, the Buddha." The girl developed great faith and joy and asked about the history of the Buddha. The merchants praised the Buddha as much as they could, and the girl became even more convinced and joyful than before. She then sent the following letter to the Blessed One: "How wonderful! You are obtained through the accumulation of merit, you are mindfulness itself. You are the excellent medicine for existence, destroying decline, suffering, and existence. The words that come from the Blessed One are the place where correct knowledge is cultivated. Blessed One, this is nectar for me, and a great fortune." The Teacher, seeing this, had an image of the body that a painter could not draw painted on cloth, and sent it to her with some verses of teaching underneath. As soon as she saw the image, she experienced a state of meditation that was like the same intention as the Buddha, and understanding the nature of the Three Refuges, the Five Precepts, the Twelve Links of Dependent Arising, the Eightfold Noble Path, etc., she attained the fruit of Stream-entry. The girl brought the people of that land into Buddhism, and that image was known as "Buddha of Radiant Light," and it is said to be the first of all Buddha images. The King of Samgala had previously held a lineage of non-Buddhists, and the daughter had not gone beyond that either. The eighty-four thousand defilements were not abandoned like those of a Hearer or Solitary Realizer, nor were they subdued by antidotes like those of a Bodhisattva, nor were they liberated in their own nature like those of Secret Mantra. Because she possessed defilements in her own being, she was called "daughter of a demon," and her face was like a lotus flower.
