The Dharma of feeling arising from the combination of six roots and objects, namely the six consciousnesses (eye consciousness, etc.). The object of focus or what is held and discriminated is the six consciousnesses such as eye consciousness. For these consciousnesses, there are virtuous mental factors such as non-attachment, as well as non-virtuous mental factors corresponding to attachment, and mental factors that are neither virtuous nor non-virtuous, or none of these. The classification of mental factors: Ālaya-vijñāna (Sanskrit: Ālaya-vijñāna, the storehouse of all seeds, 'store consciousness'), Manas (Sanskrit: Manas, the root of consciousness, 'mind'), and the manifest consciousnesses. These five that universally accompany without distinction, and the five that are distinct and uncertain, namely the five that determine the object. The objects of these are distinct, not all. Eleven virtuous mental factors arise from the mind, similarly, there are six root afflictions, twenty near afflictions, and four others that transform. These feelings have three types: pleasure, pain, and equanimity, arising accordingly. The basis of classification, the feeling of the combination of the first three, etc., the five that universally accompany as mentioned above. For the object of thought, there is desire (intention), for the object of thought, there is the determination of adhimoksha (conviction), for the familiar object, there is the non-forgetting mindfulness, and the one-pointedness of mind, Samādhi (Sanskrit: Samādhi, concentration) and the wisdom that discerns, thus, where there is adhimoksha, others will inevitably appear, therefore, everything should be understood in this way, this is called 'distinct determination', there are five. The faith of believing in karma and its effects, and the shame (Sanskrit: Hrī) of being ashamed of wrongdoing based on self or Dharma, and the embarrassment (Sanskrit: Apatrāpya) based on the world. Non-attachment, etc., namely non-anger, non-ignorance, and the diligence of rejoicing in virtue. The pliancy of body and mind, and the carefulness of what should be taken and abandoned, and the equanimity indicated by the word 'and'. Equanimity is the equality of mind, the abiding in reality, and the spontaneous accomplishment, these three indicate the beginning, middle, and end of equanimity. Due to agitation and dullness, the mind is not equal, without these, there is no equality of mind at the beginning. Afterwards, abiding without effort is abiding in reality, abiding without exertion is spontaneous accomplishment. This does not create opportunities for afflictions and near afflictions. The compassion of not harming others through killing, binding, etc., these are the eleven virtuous mental factors. The six root afflictions are: the desire for existence and its resources (Sanskrit: Rāga, इच्छा), the universal torment (Sanskrit: Dveṣa, द्वेष), --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ignorance and the wrong view of not understanding karma and its effects are bewilderment. Arrogance arising from clinging to worldly gains, and the two kinds of wrong views that hold annihilationism, eternalism, and causelessness as supreme, plus doubt about views and karma, etc., are indecisiveness. The near afflictions are immediate harm-producing anger, holding grudges, concealing faults, scolding with harsh words, being jealous of others' accomplishments, being stingy and unwilling to give away wealth and Dharma, deceiving others, hiding one's own faults, being conceited by one's own accomplishments, harming without compassion, and shamelessness in not fearing sins because of oneself, and lack of embarrassment because of others, inner dullness and outward frivolity, the opposite of faith is disbelief, laziness is the opposite of diligence, carelessness is the opposite of mindfulness, forgetfulness is the opposite of memory, and mental wandering is distraction, unconsciously engaging in the actions of the three doors such as walking, staying, sitting, and lying down is non-awareness, and regret and inner drowsiness are also the same. The coarse discrimination and detailed observation expressed by the universally feeling mind, these two are the difference between mind and wisdom. The twenty near afflictions plus two others, a total of four kinds. There are four situations as to whether these afflictions are defiled or not. From the root consciousness arise eye consciousness etc., and the consciousness that follows, there is only one. Do two or more arise simultaneously? Not necessarily, it depends on how the conditions for their arising are complete. The five consciousnesses such as eye consciousness arise from the root consciousness or the Alaya consciousness, where and in what way do the five consciousnesses arise? Do consciousnesses arise simultaneously or sequentially? For example, like water and rafts. As it is said in the sutra: 'One with vast intelligence, like a flowing river, if the condition for the arising of one wave is ripe, one wave will arise. If the conditions for the arising of two or three or many waves are ripe, many waves will also arise, and the flow of the river will not be interrupted, nor will it completely disappear.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
