Bowing and folding hands are also external symbols, signs of approaching the manifestation of mantra. For that mantra practitioner, wisdom or knowledge that was previously absent will arise, and he will easily understand meanings he has never heard before; this is the merit of mind. In an instant, from his own body, light will arise or blaze like fire; this is the internal symbol. From space and other places, pleasing songs and the sounds of musical instruments will come, and the gods will also speak. The mantra practitioner who is approaching the manifestation of the gods will always hear these sounds; this is the external symbol. Thus, the practitioner of secret mantra whose deity is approaching manifestation is a great power, a wise one who accomplishes asceticism through intense diligence. In order not to fall away from the manifestation of secret mantra and to attain siddhi, one should always be devoted to recitation and meditation. If one attains the state of mantra manifestation, then temporarily one will attain the state of walking in the sky, that is, manifesting as the deity itself. How is it? One's own body will become a youthful deity, the three doors will be perfectly endowed with qualities, and one will obtain many qualities of blissful and happy dominion, and without falling away from that, one will always enjoy it. However, whoever is not intoxicated by the bonds of desire under the power of delusion is called a mantra knower, and for him, all the fruits of practicing secret mantra, adorned with perfect wisdom and dominion, will also be obtained. That practitioner, the state of the deity who is intoxicated with the joy of possessing the qualities of desire, will go beyond the state of humans. Even so, that mantra knower, because his continuum is clear through his own power of wisdom, will not abandon the diligence of mantra by being intoxicated with recklessness and desire. Thus, while temporarily enjoying the dominion of bodily and mental bliss and happiness, the ultimate result of not abandoning diligence on the path of mantra is that one obtains the secret supreme of the body of a Buddha like Vajra, the inexhaustible wealth of speech and mind, the pure and supreme state of Brahma, free from the faults of cyclic existence, and after obtaining immeasurable qualities such as miraculous powers, one becomes eternally happy, all qualities being completely perfected. 9-4-21b --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like a lion. (རྒྱལ་བ་བཞིན་དུའོ།) Therefore, the practice of mantra is of great benefit and necessity. For those who are wholeheartedly devoted to mantra practice and possess strong body and mind, through recitation, meditation, and asceticism, like the flame of mantra, they can burn away the sins accumulated over countless past lives. That is to say, due to the influence of non-virtuous deeds and afflictions accumulated in past lives, 9-4-22a even when practicing mantra, one often feels distracted, or suffers from obstacles caused by various factors such as illness and evil spirits. However, if one persists in mantra practice without giving up, sins will gradually be purified. If one diligently meditates, one will attain complete taming of body and mind. Just like this, when the body can endure dwelling, food, cold, rain, wind, and heat, and the mind does not care about it, then the fruit of mantra practice will surely not be in vain, and one will definitely be able to experience it personally. This is mainly the merit brought about by the stability of the body. The merit of mind: When reciting mantra, whether focusing on the sound of the mantra or focusing on the image of the deity, if one can maintain clear awareness without dullness, then one should know that the mantra is close to accomplishment. If a practitioner of mantra who practices asceticism can avoid all internal and external harm and not be harmed by them, then no matter which practitioner, just seeing him, all humans and non-humans, snakes and beasts, etc., all beings will become friendly, and this is a sign that accomplishment is near. Because one has loving-kindness towards all beings, all the hindrances that create obstacles will be completely eliminated and will no longer appear. If so, is there still a need for protection? 9-4-22b Not so, happiness and suffering are the ultimate experiences of karmic manifestations. The desire for happiness, the hatred of suffering, the fear of enemies, etc., illness, death, and all kinds of harm, these are all caused by the habits of the inner self-continuum. Even those mantra practitioners who are temporarily free from various harms still have these habits. Therefore, it is necessary to strive to protect and eliminate harm. Because when the inner cause meets the external condition, obstacles and disturbances that hinder practice may arise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
