Fill the water pot with leaves and other things, and observe carefully. Observe the large and small creatures in the water, and carefully identify them with your eyes. After a long time, the eyes will be tired and unable to see clearly; after a short time, you can only see roughly. Therefore, use bright eyes and observe repeatedly and carefully at appropriate intervals, and only use it with confidence after confirming that there are no creatures. A compassionate person should carefully observe whether there are creatures in food such as porridge and soup, even if there were none before, as mosquitoes and other insects may suddenly appear. If there are no creatures, then it can be eaten. If there are creatures, filter them carefully with a five-layer water filter or other tools to ensure that the creatures do not die as a result. In this process, no harm should be done to any living being, and harm must be avoided. If any number of creatures are harmed or killed, a corresponding number of sins will be committed. Therefore, do not leave water containers open, do not put aquatic creatures on land, and do not put terrestrial creatures in water, and harm to sentient beings must be avoided. Regarding the method of observing water: if it has been observed in the morning of today, it can be used until the morning of the next day. There are five types of water that can be used even if you have not observed them yourself: water that has been observed within a fathom (unit of measurement) around; well water, etc.; water that has been observed by a virtuous monk; water of the Sangha; and water that can be trusted. These waters are in order: first, go to the center of a pond or other body of water, go over the knees, observe whether there are creatures, and if not, then the water within a fathom around can be used; second, observe in a well or other container and be sure that there are no creatures; third, water that has been observed and taken by a virtuous monk; fourth, water that has been filtered and stored by the Sangha; fifth, water that springs from steep cliffs, rock crevices, or underground. For things on land: the sewage used to wash roots, houses, etc., as well as firewood, soil, etc., in short, any item that you need, you must ensure that there are no creatures when you take it. You must protect the precept of not killing, with the discipline of restraining the faults of your own body, speech, and mind. Therefore, you must strive to protect lights, etc. In the place where monks and others wash their faces in the morning, mats should be laid, and water, soil, and toothpicks should be prepared for washing. In the place for urinating and defecating, soil and leaves, etc., should be prepared. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Or mix the dung of a young Indian bull with earth and make it into balls, and use it for washing; or prepare a sticky detergent with alkali and cardamom, etc., and use it for washing the lama's bowl, washing clothes, cleaning the dwelling, and so on. In short, accomplish all the needs of the lama. After fulfilling the lama's needs, know the time for morning and evening meals, and then prostrate to the khenpo (abbot) or lama. As before, with body, speech, and mind in reverence, join the palms of your hands and say 'Please,' or 'Eat,' or 'Please use.' Those who have vows or practice asceticism should request in this way. After requesting in this way, prepare abundant food, and wash your hands, mouth, and bowl cleanly. Do not look left or right, and the food should not be too big or too small, etc., act according to the rules. Then, cut off a mouthful of food, do not speak, and eat moderately or with restraint. If you eat for the sake of increasing strength and beauty, it becomes unwholesome; if you do not eat, your body becomes weak and you cannot do good, so if you eat in order to be able to engage in virtue, it becomes wholesome; if neither of these is the case, it becomes neutral. Therefore, with a complete intention, eat in order to avert the disease of hunger, to prevent the body from weakening, and to prevent the inability to engage in virtue. Eat food and drink beverages with such a mindset. For water that can be examined and analyzed, drink it. After eating and drinking, wash your mouth and hands with clean water, and also wash the bowl. In order to avert the bad wishes of the benefactor (sbyin bdag, dānapati), and in order to truly increase the great merit of the benefactor, recite one verse for the benefactor, and also recite one for the sake of the dragon king (klu'i rgyal po, Nāgarāja) Delight and Near Delight (nye dga', Upānanda), for a total of two verses. Things to do after eating Second, if there is any mantra for meditation, practice the contemplation of ugliness as an antidote to attachment, the contemplation of loving-kindness as an antidote to hatred, the contemplation of dependent origination as an antidote to ignorance, and the contemplation of breathing in and out as an antidote to discursive thoughts. If not, you must strive to read the texts of the three baskets (Tripitaka). Constantly spoken precepts Third, regarding the precepts that are constantly spoken, there are two parts: a summary and a detailed explanation. The first is the summary: Abandon the gross ten non-virtuous actions and other misdeeds of the three doors of body, speech, and mind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
