A distinction has been established. Since the remaining dhyanas do not have such a distinction in their limbs, the actual distinction has not been established. The actual of the second is that the inner school and the Kosha school believe that it is the faith that arises from the certainty of arising from the first dhyana. As stated in the Abhidharmakosha. In the Compendium of Determinations, the three, mindfulness, awareness, and equanimity, which are included in the second dhyana, are explained. The meaning of the inner school is that in order to pacify the distraction that causes the mind to be disturbed by the investigation of the first dhyana, its joy and happiness, and the three samadhis, as explained in the Abhidharmakosha and the Compendium of Topics respectively, are limbs of the first dhyana. The third dhyana has five limbs: mindfulness is the mental factor included in the third dhyana that does not forget to hold the object and aspect of the instruction of the third dhyana. Awareness is the mental factor included in the third dhyana that is the antidote to sinking and excitement. Equanimity of action is the mental factor included in the third dhyana that is without the fault of inequality of sinking and excitement. The feeling of happiness is the experience of mental pliancy that arises as a member of the retinue of the main consciousness. Samadhi is as before. So, what is the difference between the joy of the first two dhyanas and the happiness of the third dhyana? Although it is the same experience of mental pliancy that arises as a member of the retinue of the main consciousness, it is joy when the fault of extreme agitation towards the object is pacified, and it is called happiness at the time of that pacified third dhyana, and it is not called joy. The Vaibhashikas believe that the happiness of the first two dhyanas is the happiness of mental pliancy, while the Sutrantikas refute that since there is a pliancy in the third and fourth dhyanas that is superior to the first two dhyanas, why is the happiness of extreme pliancy not truly proclaimed? And their own school believes that the dhyana happiness of the first dhyana is the experience of mental pliancy that arises as a member of the retinue of the main body consciousness, which is sense consciousness. Among the four limbs of the fourth dhyana, pure mindfulness is the mental factor that does not forget to hold the object and aspect of the instruction of the fourth dhyana, and is liberated from the eight faults. Pure equanimity of action is.

A mental factor that is free from the faults of sinking and excitement, and liberated from the eight faults of imbalance. The feeling of equanimity is mainly a mental factor that arises as a member of a single mind consciousness, which is neither a feeling of joy nor a feeling of suffering, but an experience of an intermediate state, liberated from the eight faults of meditative concentration. Samadhi is the same as before. So, in the third dhyana, mindfulness is mentioned as a limb. Why is it not mentioned in the fourth? In the fourth dhyana, because one is liberated from the eight faults of meditative concentration, there is no need to guard against sinking and excitement, so it is not established as a limb. The eight faults are: investigation and analysis, joy and happiness, suffering and displeasure, exhalation and inhalation, these eight. Investigation, analysis, joy, and happiness are said to be faults of meditative concentration, which are faults relative to other levels, but not faults relative to one's own level. The reason for the fixed number is: what is the reason why the limbs of the four dhyanas are fixed at four and five? It is not the case that the actual limbs of meditative concentration are fixed there, because there are many actual meditative concentrations that are not those limbs. So, what is the basis for establishing the limbs as five and four? It is mainly based on inclusion. Based on what is the main inclusion made? The main inclusion is made based on the limbs of antidote, benefit, and basis. The two, investigation and analysis, of the first dhyana are limbs of antidote, because they cause one to be separated from attachment to the afflictions of the lower realms. The way in which the two, investigation and analysis, become antidotes is also by contemplating the stream of investigation and analysis of the near attainment, but the actual investigation and analysis of the main practice is only to extend the rope of the lower realms, and is not the actual abandonment of antidote. The two, joy and happiness, are limbs of benefit, because they arise from the abandonment of the afflictions of the lower realms by investigation and analysis. Samadhi is a limb of basis, because relying on it, the limb of antidote of investigation and analysis and the limb of benefit of joy and happiness can arise. In the second dhyana, inner purity is a limb of antidote, because it is for abandoning the investigation and analysis of the first dhyana. The way of transformation is the same as before. The way in which joy and happiness transform into limbs of benefit is also the same as before. Samadhi is also the same as before. The third
