etc., all the merits of mundane and supramundane should be dedicated. However, the sutra says that these should first be gathered together with wisdom, and then rejoiced in, and then dedicated their merits. Therefore, the meaning of dedicating the merits of others is: when rejoicing without jealousy, is the merit obtained equal to that of the doer attached to the dedication? The previously shown twelve dedications are the number of dedications, not the object of dedication, so do not mistakenly think that the twelve dedications dedicate that. Sixth, the essence is: As the Ornament says: The aspirations of all teachings are: The mind with intention and desire. Thus, the mind that causes the roots of virtue to increase into enlightenment, and the desire to desire inexhaustibility, etc., are all appropriate, and the wisdom of realizing selflessness is also necessary. The third is divided into three, the first is: After the dedication, the third of the contaminated is said to be rejoicing and paying attention. Because the objects of merit that have been well dedicated in the above manner should be increased by rejoicing. Here, the above-mentioned dedication and collection are: The merit of dedication is increased by rejoicing, and the dedication of merit by rejoicing, both of which are mutually represented. The connection of the sutra is: If it is said that after collecting the roots of virtue, one should rejoice, then how much more excellent will the rejoicing be? This is the answer to Subhuti's question to the Tathagata. The second is: Rejoicing in the roots of virtue by means of skillful means, and rejoicing in it by means of non-objectification, is said in the treatise or sutra that rejoicing is the meditation of paying attention, so it becomes two kinds of rejoicing with ultimate and conventional objects. Therefore, in the way of non-objectification, the great Bodhisattva practices generosity paramita, etc., and when practicing the Mother, one should skillfully dedicate those roots of virtue to unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. The third is: Rejoicing is what should be meditated on. On what? On the roots of virtue. With what? With the exhaustion of jealousy, etc. How? In the conventional, skillfully focusing on the illusion, and in the ultimate, not focusing on anything with wisdom.

It is understood through understanding itself. Third, there are three contaminated paths of cultivation. Among them, through aspiration and attention, one can manifestly accumulate many merits, that is, generate merits. As stated in the sutra: "For those who have faith in the inconceivable, the ripening is also inconceivable." Like this, one develops unwavering faith in the supreme object. The analogy for accumulating merit is like gold dust emerging from a pure gold mine. Through dedication and attention, the merits generated by aspiration become the cause of perfect enlightenment, that is, the cause of attaining Bodhi. Through wisdom and compassion, merits are increased, ultimately leading to perfect enlightenment. The analogy for transforming into a cause is like a goldsmith crafting gold into ornaments such as earrings for men. Through rejoicing and attention, both the practitioner who rejoices and others who perform virtuous deeds obtain the same merit. By eliminating jealousy, one cultivates joy for the good deeds of others as if they were one's own. That is, if the minds are the same, one obtains the same merit; if the minds are different, one can still obtain the same merit. These three are summarized from the perspective of the functions of the three contaminated dharmas. These were created by the Holy Ones, and later these treatises were also cited by Pramāṇavārttika, Pramāṇavārttika-śer-sgron, and others. The second part is divided into two points: the common connection, and the explanation of individual meanings. The first point is: after the contaminated path of cultivation, the uncontaminated path of cultivation is explained in order from inferior to superior. Among them, there are two paths of cultivation: achieving qualities and completely purifying defilements. It is the same as before. Regarding the reason for distinguishing, some say it is abandonment and realization, others say it is the path of no interruption and the path of liberation, and still others say it is the achievement of qualities with other-dependence as the object and the elimination of defilements with perfect accomplishment as the object. If it is according to the first statement, then the pure path of cultivation is abandonment, so it will become unconditioned. This is unreasonable, because "extremely pure" refers to the path of cultivation, so it is said that the path of cultivation can eliminate nine defilements. The second statement is also unreasonable, because "for great defilements and so on, smallness is the antidote," so it is said that it can destroy the nine things to be abandoned. Moreover, at the time of the path of liberation, the function of the antidote has ceased. The ascetic's
