Some say, "There is no contradiction here." Others explain that the nine grounds, from the state of being without obstruction up to the peak of the sphere of nothingness, are the path of meditation. Mentioning the desire realm and so forth is to emphasize that the ultimate truth does not exist there, not to explain the nine grounds. Thus, the first three formless realms and the six dhyana grounds, totaling nine, and the two ways of relying on the nine grounds of the three realms are explained. In any case, the latter method is consistent with the upper and lower Abhidharma, while the former method is rejected by the Abhidharma because the peak of existence is extremely unclear and the desire realm is extremely unpacified, so the uncontaminated is not based on these two. However, according to the former's statement, bodhisattvas with skillful means are not harmed by the unclearness and distraction of the peak of existence and the desire realm, so I think the former method is not unreasonable. In general, although this is the case, in this text, it is appropriate to explain these nine grounds as the basis for abandoning what is to be abandoned. This is the mind basis of the path of meditation, and the body basis, for the basis of the unborn arising, does not require the gods and humans of the desire realm, and for the basis of the already born abiding, noble bodhisattvas do not arise in the formless realm, so it is the basis of the form realm, and for the hearers, there are also those with the formless realm as their basis. The mind basis of the hearers should be understood according to the latter method. Second, the purity of the Buddha is called the extremely pure, that is, relying on the four samapattis of the desire realm, dhyana, and formless realm, totaling nine grounds, or the opponents included in the three realms, that is, the great of the great of what is to be abandoned by meditation, and the nine antidotes such as the small of the small included by "etc.", in order, as the nature of the small of the small of the Mahayana path of meditation, etc., are the cause of purifying all the defilements of what is to be abandoned by meditation. This is pervasive, because if this cause can purify all defilements, then this result must be liberated from all defilements. The purity of the hearers, solitary realizers, and arhats is called the other of the extremely pure purified by all defilements, that is, the partial purity, that is, the nine small, medium, and large paths of meditation of the hearers and solitary realizers that arise as antidotes to the large, medium, and small of what is to be abandoned by meditation relying on the nine grounds.

The other of all kinds is only the obscuration of affliction, and the stain of the grasping and appearance thought associated with it. Because it is the cause of purifying a part. It is pervasive, because if the cause is the antidote to a minor stain, then the result obtained from it is also liberation from only a part of the stain. Some think that this treatise shows the purity of the Bodhisattva as superior to that of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, while others explain that this treatise establishes the purity of the Bodhisattva as superior. Both of these are unreasonable. If combined, when asked for the reason why the purity of the Buddha and the Hearers and Solitary Realizers is superior or not, the answer given will become irrelevant. It is like when asked for the difference between a cow and a non-cow, answering the merits and demerits of a horse and a buffalo, and the establishment of a horse and a buffalo. Here, although the sutra of the nine stages of meditation is combined, it is not quoted from the "Boundless Space Sutra." The second part has two parts: debate and answer. The first part is: As an antidote to the nine progressively increasing objects to be abandoned, the nine Mahayana paths that arise from small to large, by the reason that they are the cause of purifying all stains, then how can the result of these paths, the purity of the Buddha, not be the purity that is not closely taken, but be superior? Because the order of what is to be abandoned and the antidote is unreasonable. If it is said that the great object to be abandoned must be destroyed by the great, and the small object to be abandoned must be destroyed by the small, then what about it? In this way, the Acharya's (teacher's) thought is to raise this debate from within, and as a response to it, to establish the Buddha's purity as superior by eliminating this debate with the example of the washerman. Therefore, this is an elimination of debate, not an establishment, because there is nothing more here than the above. The reason for this doubt is also that above it was said that omniscience is truly superior, and the purity of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers is established. Some think that the reason for these is that the cause, that is, the path, destroys all the objects to be abandoned and a part, and the way of destroying is from the great object to be abandoned to the small antidote. Therefore, this is unreasonable, so the difference in the result is also unreasonable. It can be known by understanding the way in which the external commentary criticizes the objects to be abandoned. If such a question is not raised, the following answer will become irrelevant and repetitive. If the way of raising the question is not understood, this treatise will separately establish superiority.
