to destroy, because it possesses power. As it says in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: 'Because of the view of emptiness and its contradiction, its own nature, all faults, and contradiction are extremely established.' Also, as it says: 'Through the view of emptiness, liberation is attained; other meditations are for this purpose.' Therefore, it should be understood that both manifest and latent afflictions are abandoned through the mental engagement of belief in the selflessness of persons and the mental engagement of suchness. Do not think that this classification contradicts the ways of abandoning previously shown in the context of the self of persons and in the context of meditative absorption and the formless realms, because those are explained according to the literal meaning of what is stated in the Abhidharma, and not by examining where the intention lies. The third part has three points: abandoning in sequence and simultaneously, the nature and time of what is to be abandoned, and an examination of what is the meaning of abandoning and liberation. The first part has two points: establishing the proposition, and contemplating the meaning of the location. The first point is: In 'Sunlight,' it is said that if the mundane path precedes the path of knowledge, the nine abandonments of the path of cultivation are abandoned before the path of seeing, except for the peak of existence. And, with the supramundane path of cultivation, the nine afflictions from the desire realm to the peak of existence are also abandoned in sequence. In 'The Intent of the Able One,' it is also held that with the nine grounds that have become the nature of the path of cultivation, the nine abandonments of the desire realm are abandoned in sequence, and with the ten grounds of the distinguished path, which have become the nature of the pure path of cultivation, the nine sets of abandonments of the form and formless realms are abandoned in sequence, and this is also explained as the intention of the noble ones. The Great Self says that the statement in 'Sunlight' is merely a statement that conforms to the Hearers, and cannot be applied literally to Bodhisattvas, because if one considers detachment from attachment to precede the afflictive obscurations, then it is not reasonable to say that abandoning the eighth affliction of the peak of existence is a bodhisattva who is obstructed by one lifetime. Because it is also too extreme for entering the Hearer Arhat state. It is also not reasonable to consider it to be the obscuration of knowledge, because that contradicts the abandonments of the mundane path before the path of seeing, because that path itself is the obscuration of knowledge. It is also not reasonable to think that the nine sets of abandonments of the nine grounds are abandoned in sequence with the supramundane path of cultivation, because the afflictions of the peak of existence nine

Furthermore, it is said that abandoning the nine levels of afflictions of the desire realm is Buddhahood, and that abandoning the eighth level is explaining the tenth bhumi, which is unreasonable, as mentioned before. Even if we establish it in this way considering the obscuration of knowledge, it is still unreasonable. If so, then saying that abandoning the very small part of what should be abandoned in the desire realm results in the non-returner state is contradictory, because abandoning these is equivalent to abandoning all that should be abandoned in the three realms simultaneously, and therefore one should logically become a Buddha. Therefore, in terms of abandonment, bodhisattvas being established as stream-enterers and once-returners, etc., of the Hearers is merely a classification made with the intention of showing that they have special reasons that are in accordance with the names of these fruits, and it is not established with the intention of following the order of abandonment of the Hearers, this is certain. Secondly, regarding how to understand the intention of the Noble Ones, Abhaya and the Great Self differ, but we follow the latter. If we understand it according to the intention of the Muni, many contradictions will arise. For example, abandoning the nine levels of afflictions of the desire realm, and using the stainless ones, etc., to correspond to each of these nine levels, and considering it as the intention of the Noble Ones, and explaining the abandonment in the case of the Sun-born individual literally, these two are contradictory. Because for the afflictions grasped by the term "Sun-born," apart from the peak of existence, abandonment also occurs before the path of seeing. In this way, the fault of obtaining the tenth bhumi before the path of seeing will occur. If abandoning the ninth level of afflictions of the desire realm is the tenth bhumi, then it is unreasonable to say that an Arhat meditator who has abandoned the eighth level of the peak of existence abides on the tenth bhumi. If one has not abandoned what should be abandoned in the upper realms before obtaining the tenth bhumi, then the seeing and meditation of the Noble Ones' retinue, From page 601 to 671. The four types of conceptual thoughts that correspond to what should be abandoned by both are said to be the classification of the three realms, which is contradictory. Furthermore, when explaining the nature of the peak of the path of seeing in the peak application, it is said that it abandons the one hundred and eight conceptual thoughts of the three realms, which is also contradictory. If one thinks that these two paths of seeing are special paths of the tenth bhumi, so there is no contradiction, then the statement of Good Feet that in all aspects, all paths are considered special paths will be refuted by the teachings of the Noble Ones, and all the faults will fall on oneself. And the teaching of the four realizations of Asanga, which one cites as proof, showing the boundaries of the four
