Thus it is said. Secondly, in the Commentary on the Compendium, it says, "Intent is merely what is kept in mind, and it is not admitted to rely on others. Obscure intent is that which relies on grasping that very other." Regarding this, the former ones explain, "It mainly shows the basis and necessity of intent." This is not intent, because if it were, these two would have to contradict each other, and there would have to be a difference between necessity being primary and intent being secondary, and vice versa. The reason for not contradicting is that the first and last intents are said to be antidotal obscure intents, and the second one mentioned in the Compendium of Vehicles is also an antidotal obscure intent. Furthermore, the statement "I am the seer" is mainly spoken to avoid contempt for the Buddha, and not primarily with the aim of the Buddhas' Dharmakaya being the same. Therefore, all non-literal meanings that require searching for other intents are done for the sake of necessity, and not for the sake of the basis of intent. So, what is the meaning of the scripture? The extent to which the words express is not the intent of that word, but it is explained separately, "This was said after thinking about it." From the aspect of showing the speaker's thought, it is intent; from the aspect of showing the necessity that is not shown directly but expressed in obscure language, it is called obscure intent, because obscure or veiled language is obscure. Thus, the statement of meaning expressed by Śānti is intentional, and explaining the necessity of the expressed word is also in accordance with obscure intent. Therefore, the two, intent and obscure intent, are established on the basis of literal scriptures, established in different ways, namely, "considering this" and "said for the sake of this." The statement that intent does not rely on grasping by others means that it is not established as intent from that aspect. And the "that very itself" in obscure intent clearly shows that both are based on one basis. The commentators have not even properly examined this way. Thirdly, all of these are literal, because intent is to seek other intents beyond what is expressed by the words, and obscure intent is non-literal language. As the Compendium says, "What is the ascertainment of obscure intent? Whatever is the collection of names, the collection of words, and the collection of letters..."

It means that the meaning is transferred to other aspects, and the meaning is completely transformed. So, if everything is transformed, will it become a hidden meaning? That is the wish. So, how to distinguish it? It is only through the opposite way, if not, then the meaning and the hidden meaning will also contradict each other. Moreover, the first meaning is not referring to other meanings, if that is the case, it will not work either. In the explanation of the Ornament of Realization, it says: Those that are not explained according to the literal meaning are examples of it. So, in the Compendium of Determinations, it says: Through the four meanings and the four hidden meanings, one should grasp all the teachings of the Buddha. And, the hidden meaning for the antidote is where the eighty-four thousand antidotes are taught. If you say that, then will all the Buddha's words become direct meanings? The first one is absolutely unreasonable, because it is the method of grasping the Buddha's words, if the Buddha's words become that method, then it is too much. The second one is also unreasonable, because the meaning of that scripture is that for afflictions such as attachment, hatred, pride, and conceptualization, one should completely abandon them by using antidotes such as ugliness meditation, loving-kindness, element differentiation, and mindfulness of breathing, etc. These are not according to the literal meaning, because each of them cannot completely abandon them. Therefore, in order to lead those with difficult-to-tame faculties to practice temporary antidotes, it is the intention for that, and not to explain all the Buddha's words as hidden meanings for the antidote. The hidden meaning for the antidote, practicing ugliness meditation, etc., is explained in the commentary of the Ornament of Realization and its two great commentaries. Gradually accomplishing the benefit of others, after that, for as long as the cycle of sentient beings exists, the signs of attachment appear, and without relying on effort, it is spontaneously accomplished, and the wisdom of accomplishing the benefit of other sentient beings arises or enters. The word "arise" at the end of this treatise, adding it after each realization of the Dharma is unreasonable, because this is the explanation of "entering the root." So, is such an activity of accomplishing the benefit of others only possible for the Buddha? In the Treatise on the Buddha-Nature, it says: Due to the power of past habituation, and because of cutting off all conceptualizations, that is not for the sake of sentient beings maturing. This is what is said at the tenth bhumi, so there is no need for great effort.
