That is not the case; the apprehension of separate limbs as limbs of a chariot is solely due to the prior recognition that those were related to a chariot. Therefore, one understands that spokes and so forth are limbs of a chariot. If one did not know that beforehand, others would not, because that person, in relation to the parts of the spokes and so forth themselves, would only understand that the spokes and so forth themselves are the possessors of limbs. In that person's view, the connection of the spokes and so forth with the chariot is also completely abandoned at a distance, so at that time, they do not understand those as limbs of a chariot. Furthermore, if the chariot is not established by its own nature, then its limbs are also not existent by their own nature; this meaning should be understood from this example. For example, if a chariot with limbs is burned by fire, then the limbs also do not exist, that is, they are burned by fire, just like that example. From the churning of the churning stick of analytical investigation, the fire of wisdom, the mind that realizes non-apprehension, when it burns the chariot, the possessor of limbs, established by its own nature, without leaving anything behind, then the limbs that have become fuel for the fire of wisdom also cannot remain firmly in their own being, that is, established by their own nature, because they will certainly be burned by the fire of wisdom. Third, in order not to abandon conventional truth, and in order for yogis to easily enter into suchness, just as one contemplates the way of analyzing a chariot, relying on and establishing imputation, similarly, from the perspective of what is renowned in the world, relying on the five aggregates of appropriation, the six elements, and likewise the six sense sources, I am also considered to be an appropriator like a chariot, because I am imputed as self in dependence on those. Similarly, the aggregates of appropriation are actions, and this self is also the agent, thus it is established. Fourth, when the self is established as relying on imputation, since it is not the basis for the extreme clinging thoughts of permanence and impermanence, etc., it is said that it becomes easy to avert the thoughts that grasp impermanence, etc., as established by their own nature. This self that is imputed in dependence on the aggregates is not inherently permanent or impermanent.

If it exists by its own nature, then the self and the closely grasping should not be different in nature, and the closely grasping itself becomes the self. If that is the case, the self arises and ceases separately in each moment by its own nature, so the before and after become unrelated, and the things to be closely grasped all become its closely grasping agent, so it is unreasonable. Similarly, stability, that is, permanence, is also unreasonable. If it is permanent, then the self that appeared in the previous life is the self that appears here, and the aggregates of the previous and present selves are different in nature. The self cannot be one, because there is no self that is different in nature from the aggregates. The Root Wisdom says: If the aggregates are the self, then there will be arising and ceasing. This shows the two differences of "this is not arising and ceasing", which is the view of the teacher. It is said that arising and ceasing are established by their own nature. For this self, the fourfold set of permanence etc. is also not naturally existent. In the Root Wisdom, when the Tathagata is fully understood by the method of investigation, where are the four, such as permanence and impermanence, in this peace? etc. This self is not the same, that is, the same entity, nor is it different, it does not exist by its own nature. The reason for these is that the thing called self is not established by its own nature. As the Sutra says: The four inexhaustible dharmas are taught by the protector of the world: sentient beings, space, bodhicitta, and thus the Buddhas and all dharmas. If they were real, they would be completely exhausted. Those that are not are not exhausted, therefore it is said that they are inexhaustible. Thus. It is said that sentient beings are not exhausted because they are not real, which is the basis here. Fifth, if the meaning to be designated is sought by the seven modes, it is impossible to exist as permanent or impermanent. If I do not see the self-established nature of the self, and due to the power of ignorance, I cling to the existence of self-nature, then those who cling to the view of the perishable aggregate, thinking that I am self-established, will wander in samsara. If I seek the self completely, then the reasoning of the heretics who seek the self is the aggregates themselves.
