If it is established that the result arises from elsewhere, then, since this is the case, the blazing flame that eliminates darkness will also produce the thick darkness to be eliminated. Moreover, all things that are causes or not causes will also produce all things that are results or not results. Why? Because for all things that do not produce that result, they equally possess the two situations of being considered cause and effect, and because the otherness established by its own nature is the same. These are two excessive inferences based on the reason accepted by others. If we explain these two excessive inferences, just as the rice seed that produces the rice sprout is other than the rice sprout, which is established by its own nature. For fire and coal, which do not produce the rice sprout, and barley seeds, etc., are also other than the rice sprout, which is established by its own nature, this is the view of those who advocate other-production. If it is thought that these two ways of being other are the same, then just as the rice seed transforms into other and produces the rice sprout, the rice sprout will also arise from fire and coal, etc. Moreover, just as the rice sprout transforms into other, arising from the rice seed, the vase and blanket, etc., will also arise from the rice seed. This is making them the same. This is what is said in the Root Wisdom: If cause and effect are other, it will never be reasonable. If cause and effect are other, cause and non-cause will be the same. This is the reasoning for the excessive inferences spoken of for other-production. The commentary explains that refutations are applied to both excessive inferences. Second, there are two: the reason why excessive inferences apply to other-production; and the acceptance of refutations from excessive inferences is not contradictory. First: Here, regarding the reason why the fault of excessive inferences applies to accepting other-production, some Tibetans say that because cause and effect have a temporal sequence, while others must exist simultaneously, this is extremely unreasonable. Because all the faults of such a prohibition will equally befall oneself, and if one argues that there is no such acceptance, then the effort to find that reason is meaningless. Also, many Tibetans think that logicians believe that smoke with a particular characteristic must have fire, and that conditioned phenomena must be impermanent.
