It is. Furthermore, Dharmakirti said, "The nature of inner knowledge is, whatever appears as an external object. Because it is the object, it is the nature of consciousness. That itself is also the condition for it." And, "Because even a part is not confused, it is a condition." And, "Or, because it establishes the ability, it is gradual." The meaning of these and other statements has been extensively explained by the god Shakya, the teacher Dharmottara, the teacher Kamalashila, and others. In particular, summarizing the meaning explained by the teacher Kamalashila in the commentary on the Compendium on the Reality of Valid Cognition, in terms of appearance, it appears as an external object, and the blue color, etc., which abides as the object to be grasped, like the blue color, etc., which are included in the knowable substance, that object is the object of the blue-appearing consciousness, and it is also the objective condition. That is, a part, namely the blue color that arises simultaneously with the consciousness itself, follows without confusion. Because it is the object, the blue-appearing consciousness arises, so it is known as a condition in the world, and there is no fault of being harmed by worldly conventions. Or, because the later consciousness arises through the door of the ability established by the previous consciousness, the condition and the conditioned arise gradually. That is, on the immediately preceding condition of the blue-appearing sense consciousness established by the signifying previous consciousness, that blue-appearing consciousness has the ability to leave a trace of producing the aspect of the blue color to be grasped, and that ability itself is the objective condition of that sense consciousness, just as those who accept external objects establish the consciousness as the producer of the aspect of the object. It is not reasonable to say that the objective condition of the second moment in which the blue-appearing sense consciousness constantly arises is the blue color that arises simultaneously with the first moment, because it is said in the scriptures that the aspect of the object arises from the habit itself. If one examines whether the aspect of the object arises from the outside or the inside, it is not said in the scriptures that it arises from the previous blue color. The nominalists do not desire even a small objective condition for the object of red color, but the defining characteristic of the objective condition established by nominal valid cognition is just what was said earlier. The meaning shown by "Because even a part is not confused, it is a condition" is that although the object is a defining characteristic, the condition is imputed.

The valid cognition that terms something as the producer and something as the product is not established, because the assertion that cause and effect are the same substance is a tenet of the Samkhya school, and not the tenet of any scholar such as the Mind-Only school or the Sutra school. If external objects do not exist, then it is impossible for a seed to produce a sprout, or for smoke to indicate fire, because according to your view, smoke is merely the arising of the consciousness that appears as smoke and the consciousness that appears as fire. If that is the case, when inferring hidden phenomena, the consciousness that appears as a corpse arises first, and the consciousness that appears as fire arises later, so it is unreasonable for the former to be the effect and the latter to be its cause, and therefore it will be impossible to infer the cause from the effect. If you assert that the consciousness that appears as a corpse is the cause and the consciousness that appears as fire is the effect, then it is not certain that smoke can always infer the effect from the cause, and therefore the subsequent inference based on the sign of the effect will not be established. If you think so, then in the tenet where external objects are not established, the fault of the sign of the effect not being established does not exist at all, because the habit on the mind that clearly appears as smoke is the immediate cause of the appearance of a corpse, and the co-emergent condition of the consciousness that does not clearly appear is the habit that can produce the clear appearance of fire, which itself is the cause of the consciousness that appears as smoke. Therefore, by the power of the consciousness that appears as smoke inferring the ability to generate the consciousness that clearly appears as fire on the previous habit that is similar to it, the consciousness that has the clear appearance of fire will be realized. The consciousness that appears as fire is not inferred as being present, and it is reasonable to examine it even in relation to other individuals who are debaters or opponents. The commentary says that inferring the future is because the scholar Shakya Prabha said that if there is no obstruction, there will be a future consciousness that appears as fire, so it needs to be inferred. But it is not just the future, because the scholars Jina and Shakya Prabha said it is similar to taste and form. Therefore, when inferring taste and form, the scholars realize the past and the same time, but not the future, because that is mistaken. When establishing the other's continuum, shouldn't we infer the mind that completely arouses oneself from the appearances of the body and speech of others? Other continuums the aspects related to the rememberer and the ascertainment related to consciousness should not be the appearances of others, because of his intention.
