It is the realm of wisdom, the vehicle of pacifying the proliferation of sound and conceptuality. In response to the question of who will uphold the teachings after the Teacher's passing, it is said: After the Sugata's passing into nirvana, he will be the one who upholds the doctrines. Know that he will arise after the passage of time, O great wise one. In the land of the Vedas in the south, there will be a monk greatly renowned, whose name is called Nāga (Sanskrit: Nāga, Tibetan: ཀླུ). He will destroy the factions of existence and non-existence. My vehicle will be extensively taught in the world as the unsurpassed Great Vehicle. Having accomplished the ground of great joy, he will go to Sukhavati. Thus, Nagarjuna is said to have explained the vehicle of definitive meaning, which is free from the two extremes of existence and non-existence. This is explained in the Noble Golden Light Sutra, that the Licchavi youth named 'Joyful to See by All the World' during the time of the Teacher's presence is the very one who will take rebirth. In the Great Cloud Sutra, it is said that this youth, four hundred years after my nirvana, will become a monk named Nāga, will expand my teachings, and will eventually become a Buddha named Light of the Source of Wisdom in the field called Light of Great Joy. In the Action Tantra, the Root Tantra of Manjushri, the time and name of his appearance are the same, but it is said that he will live for six hundred years. In the Great Drum Sutra, it is said that this Licchavi youth named 'Joyful to See by All the World,' eighty years after the Teacher's passing, when the teachings are declining, will become a monk holding the Teacher's name, will expand the teachings, and after one hundred years will pass away and be born in Sukhavati. Regarding this, Atisha and the lay practitioner Jangchub Zangpo consider this to be a prophecy of this teacher, because the Licchavi Joyful to See and Nagarjuna are of the same lineage. In the Great Drum Sutra, it is said that this prophecy will occur in the south, so it is the same one. Therefore, the one who appears after four hundred years is the second way of appearing in the south. In the Lankavatara Sutra and the Root Tantra of Manjushri, it is said that he will go to Sukhavati after accomplishing the first ground, while in the Great Drum Sutra, it is said that this monk will attain up to the seventh ground. In the Great Cloud Sutra and the Great Drum Sutra, it is said that he will attain enlightenment in the future, which refers to the way of manifesting enlightenment as a nirmanakaya in the desire realm.

Therefore, it is not contradictory to say that Nagarjuna attained the state of Vajradhara in that very lifetime through the path of unsurpassed yoga. Just as it is not contradictory to say that Shakyamuni Buddha attained enlightenment at the age of one hundred, and to say that he attained enlightenment countless eons ago. Such a great protector, if a practitioner of unsurpassed yoga cannot attain enlightenment even after practicing for six hundred years, then the statement in the tantras of unsurpassed yoga that disciples of the highest capacity attain the state of Vajradhara in one lifetime, even if promised, is just empty words. Therefore, in the commentary on the "Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning," it is said that the protector's deeds were not completed, which is to say that he only practiced the path of the Paramita Vehicle. Thirdly, such a protector composed many treatises on common fields of knowledge, such as the "Hundredfold Application," and also on inner knowledge, relying on mantras and the Paramitas. Explaining the definitive meaning of the profound Middle Way through scripture is done by quoting many sutras from the "Compendium of Sutras," such as the "Hundred Thousand Verses of the Perfection of Wisdom" and the Bodhisattva Pitaka. Explaining it through reasoning is done by establishing it with many reasonings in the six treatises: the "Root Wisdom," the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness," the "Refutation of Objections," the "Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning," the "Detailed Explanation," and the "Garland of Jewels." Although emptiness is also explained in some praises, there are not many that are established through reasoning. These treatises are also summarized into two: mainly explaining the dependent arising of suchness, which is free from the extremes of existence and non-existence, and mainly explaining liberation from samsara through the path that does not cling to the extremes of existence and non-existence. The first is further divided into two: among those who assert the nature of things, refuting the self-nature fabricated on persons and phenomena is the "Root Wisdom"; and refuting the sixteen meanings of logical terms, such as the means of proof, is the "Detailed Explanation." The self-nature of things does not exist in conditions, etc. As it is said. If the self-nature of all things does not exist in all places, then your words also have no self-nature, and cannot refute self-nature. Because such a refutation arose, the "Refutation of Objections" is the remainder of the first chapter of the treatise. This treatise uses the self-nature of words to
