In the Madhyamaka Lamp, some sutras say that "all dharmas are without inherent existence, unborn," etc., which are provisional meanings. Because in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra and others, the answer to the debate of "the intention of the sutra's meaning has been shown" is that, therefore, showing the intention does not contradict the definitive meaning. Precisely for this reason, in order to establish that showing the unborn etc. is the definitive meaning, and in order to avoid contradictions with what is seen etc., and in order to eliminate grasping at the literal meaning. The noble Samdhinirmocana Sutra itself says that it is considering the ultimate meaning of the selflessness of phenomena, the absence of inherent existence, that the unborn etc. are spoken of. Therefore, the so-called "therefore" means that in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra, the ultimate truth is also, and the complete distinction of dharmas by the absence of inherent existence is also, therefore, regarding the absence of inherent existence of the ultimate truth that is spoken of, this absence of inherent existence refers to the fact that all dharmas are merely without inherent existence. This explains "because." This explains that the intention of the spoken of absence of inherent existence etc. has been explained by the Samdhinirmocana Sutra, thereby preventing grasping at the literal meaning and establishing it as the definitive meaning. The Madhyamikas acknowledge the unborn etc. in the ultimate truth, and acknowledge the arising etc. in the conventional truth, therefore, regarding the showing of the unborn etc., it is said, "Do not cling to the literal meaning," therefore, considering arising and ceasing etc. to be completely non-existent is clinging to the literal meaning. The tenet that considers these to be non-existent in the ultimate truth is not clinging to the literal meaning. If that is the case, then it contradicts the fact that the second turning of the wheel of dharma, which speaks of the absence of inherent existence and the unborn etc., is provisional meaning, because these sutras establish these as definitive meaning. If this is asked, although the elimination of this contradiction has been done in the Madhyamaka Lamp, its intention is that if the provisional meaning is spoken, and after showing the intention, it is established as the definitive meaning, if these two are the same sutra, then it contradicts, but it is only the same in the intermediate wheel of dharma, but it is not the same sutra. That is to say, like the Heart Sutra, in that sutra, without clearly combining the difference between the ultimate truth and the truth, the showing of formlessness etc. as it is shown, one cannot understand it literally merely by this, therefore it must be guided elsewhere, therefore it is provisional meaning. The way of guiding is that the eyes and ears etc. are not in the ultimate truth.

Because it is not that it does not exist in name, it is said that it is necessary to add distinctions such as reality. If you do so, like the Hundred Thousand Prajnaparamita Sutra, adding distinctions such as reality to what is to be refuted, all are established as the true meaning of the words, meaning that the second turning of the wheel is said to be provisional, not all of the second turning. This is also, in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra, although it is forbidden to cling to the words as they are, thinking that there is no self-nature, arising, ceasing, etc., as it is, it is not said that clinging to the absence of self-nature, etc., in reality, as the meaning of clinging to the words as they are, is forbidden. If you put the above and below together, clinging to the self-nature, arising, and ceasing, etc., that are established by their own characteristics is clinging to the words as they are, but in this sutra it is said that it is not established by its own characteristics, therefore, saying that the characteristic self-nature is empty is to prevent existence in reality, and the key point of establishing that it is established by its own characteristics in name, therefore, it is explained in that way. To sum up, for the second turning of the wheel spoken to those who have entered the Mahayana, there are two situations: adding the distinction of reality to what is to be refuted and not adding it, as it is said in the later sutras, do not grasp it as it is in words, but as it is said in the former, arising, ceasing, etc., do not exist in reality, but exist in name, please understand it in this way, because the Samdhinirmocana Sutra explains it in this way, so the Samdhinirmocana Sutra is like the Hundred Thousand Prajnaparamita Sutra, etc., and is considered to be the sutra that establishes the true meaning. These have understood the way of explaining it as provisional in the beginning. If you think that the way of establishing the three natures of the Yogacara school is not the meaning of this sutra, then in the Madhyamaka Aloka, it is said that in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra, the Lankavatara Sutra, and the Dense Array Sutra, etc., after preventing external objects, at some times when establishing the Vijnanavada school, the self-nature on the mind is not prevented, because it is not possible to realize that all dharmas are without self-nature all at once, it is said that it is in accordance with the thoughts of those who must be gradually guided. Therefore, in those sutras, there are both those who can realize that all dharmas are without self-nature all at once and those who are spoken to, and there are the two previous situations, so they are separated and established as the meaning of the sutra. In the translated treatises of Acharya Shantarakshita, the way to determine the three natures has been said before.
