Even if Dharma is taught, if you hear it but do not practice it correctly, it is like a sick person carrying a medicine bag, unable to cure their own illness. Furthermore, it is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: These things should be practiced with the body. What is accomplished by merely speaking words? By merely reading medical texts, will it benefit the sick? Thus, one should generate the perception that diligence is like curing illness. The diligence mentioned is the practice of what the spiritual friend advises regarding what to adopt and abandon. Moreover, to do it, one needs to know; to know, one needs to hear; and the purpose of knowing after hearing is also to do it. Therefore, it is crucial to put the meaning of what is heard into practice according to one's ability. If it is not like this, at the time of death, one will regret not having practiced, like an actor imitating others, or like eating only the sugarcane stalk when seeking sugar. From the perspective of arousing higher aspiration: 'My practice has declined, what should I do now?' At the time of death, one grieves like a child. If one does not find the profound meaning, one will suffer greatly. These are the faults of being fond of talking. Also, like sitting among people watching a play, praising the qualities of other heroes, one becomes negligent oneself. These are the faults of being fond of talking. The sugarcane bark has no essence; the delightful taste is inside. By eating the bark, one cannot find the sweet taste of sugar. Just as the bark is like speaking, the taste is like the meaning and mind in this. Therefore, abandon being fond of talking, always be mindful, and contemplate the meaning. Thus it is said. Fifth, remember the Bhagavan who speaks the Dharma, and generate respect. Sixth, thinking that by relying on listening to such Dharma, how wonderful it would be if the Buddha's teachings could remain in the world for a long time. Furthermore, when teaching or listening to Dharma, setting aside one's own mindstream and teaching the Dharma separately, whatever is said will not hit the mark. Therefore, one needs to listen to the Dharma in order to ascertain one's own mindstream. For example, if one wants to examine whether there are blemishes such as moles on the face, just as one looks in a mirror to know and remove the blemishes, the faults in one's own behavior

Moreover, when listening to the Dharma, it appears in the mirror of Dharma, and at that time, one thinks, "My mindstream has become like this," and sadness arises in the heart. After that, one begins to eliminate faults and accumulate merits, so it is necessary to follow the Dharma. As it is said in the Jataka tales: "The image of my evil deeds, clearly seen in the mirror of Dharma, causes great sadness in my heart, and I will turn to the Dharma." When the son of Sudasa asked Prince Moon to teach the Dharma, the Bodhisattva knew that his mind had become a vessel for listening to the Dharma, and thus taught the Dharma. In short, I must attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. To attain it, I must learn its cause. For this, it seems necessary to hear the Dharma, so generate the mind of enlightenment, thinking, "I will listen to the Dharma." Remembering the benefits of listening, rejoice, eliminate the faults of the vessel, and then listen to the Dharma. Second, there are four points: contemplating the benefits of teaching the Dharma, generating respect for the teacher and the Dharma, with what kind of intention and behavior to teach the Dharma, and the difference between where to teach and where not to teach. The first point is, in the Abhidharmakosha it is said: "The gift of Dharma is not of the nature of affliction, the Sutras and so on are taught as they are." And, in its auto-commentary it is said: "Therefore, those who teach the Dharma in a distorted way, and those who are afflicted in mind, teaching for the sake of gain, respect, and fame, they diminish their own great merit." Therefore, the purity of the intention of the Dharma teacher is very important. Moreover, just as Mangra Gompa said that he had never taught the Dharma without first practicing impermanence once, it is crucial to adjust the intention beforehand. In "Increasing Enthusiasm," it is said that for giving pure Dharma without looking for gain and so on, two sets of twenty benefits will arise, thereby encouraging us. In "Fierce" it is also said that compared to a householder giving immeasurable impure things, a renunciate giving just one verse of Dharma is more meritorious. The second point is, as the Sutra of the Queen Mother says, the teacher himself lays out the seat and so on, because the Dharma is also an object of respect for the Buddhas, so one should remember the qualities and kindness of the Dharma and the teacher, thereby generating respect. Third
