The great Sthavira Vinaya-dhara of the Mahasamghika school, known as Shila Rakshita. Having taken ordination with a Khenpo who had entered one aspect of the Suchness of the Path of Yoga and had attained Samadhi, he was given the name Pal Marme Dze Yeshe. Thereafter, for thirty-one years, he studied all the upper and lower sections of the Abhidhamma Pitaka within the Mahayana tradition. In particular, he listened to the great Vibhasha of the Sarvastivada school for twelve years in Odantapuri in the presence of the master Dharma Rakshita. Because he was extremely learned in the texts of the four root schools, he knew the minute details of what to accept and reject, such as the giving and receiving of the different schools, without confusing them. Secondly, in general, all the teachings of the Buddha's words are included in the three precious Pitakas. The teachings of realization are also included in the three precious trainings. Among these, the training in morality is praised many times in the scriptures and their commentaries as the basis of all qualities such as the training in Samadhi and wisdom. Therefore, one must first possess the qualities of realization that are dominated by the training in morality. Among these three, the way to possess the supreme Pratimoksha vows is as follows: Having received the Bhikshu vows, just as a yak that is attached to its tail hair, even though the hunter sees that it will lose its life when each strand of its tail gets caught on a tree, it would rather risk its life than cut off its tail and protects it. What need is there to mention the great precepts that have been vowed? Even the smallest precepts were protected with life, and thus he became a great Sthavira Vinaya-dhara. It is said. Possessing the Bodhisattva vows: There are many instructions for cultivating the mind of Bodhichitta, which has its root in love and compassion. In particular, having relied on Serlingpa, and having studied for a long time the supreme instructions transmitted from Jowo Jamyang (Lord Maitreya and Manjushri), through Thogme (Asanga) and Zhiwa Lha (Shantideva), the Bodhichitta of cherishing others more than oneself was born in his heart. With the mind of aspiration led by that, he vowed to train in the vast conduct of the Bodhisattva with the mind of engaging, and with the good conduct of training in the subsequent training, he did not transgress the boundaries set by the sons of the Buddhas.
