Because there needs to be a sequence of before and after, it is not that once one realizes the emptiness of one dharma, one will actually realize the emptiness of all other dharmas, but rather that one can realize it when one's mind is focused on whether other dharmas exist truthfully. In this way, just as realizing that it is a dream in a dream, thereby knowing that the appearances of men and women, etc., are empty. As the Ornament for Clear Realization says: "In dreams, all dharmas, view them as dreams." This means that in dreams, all dharmas should be viewed as dreams. These two are not the same in meaning. Similarly, the appearances experienced in meditation, such as the appearances of vases, blankets, etc., knowing that where they appear is emptiness, and knowing that these things are not inherently real, but like illusions and dreams, these two are also different in meaning. Therefore, for the scriptures and treatises that mention understanding things as illusions and dreams, one must carefully study those unique, uncommon ways in which illusions appear. If you do this, you will find that children who do not know the world will regard the images in the mirror as real faces, etc.; viewers who do not understand magic will regard the scenes in magic performances as real horses and cows, etc.; people who do not understand that it is a dream will regard the mountains, houses, houses, etc. that appear in the dream as real. These situations are similar. Similarly, experienced old people, magicians, and people who know that it is a dream know that those appearances are not real. These two situations are also similar, but neither has gained the ultimate view. The second point is that if one does not fully understand the limits of the object to be refuted mentioned earlier, and analyzes the object with reason, one will initially feel that the object does not exist. Then, one will also feel that the analyst is the same as the object, because there is no basis for determining "what is this, what is not this", so the appearance becomes blurred. The appearance of this kind of appearance is because there is no distinction between self-existence and non-existence, and mere existence and non-existence. Therefore, such emptiness is the emptiness of destroying dependent origination. Therefore, the blurred appearance caused by realizing this emptiness is by no means the meaning of illusion. Therefore, when analyzing with reason, for things such as people, one must study the way in which they exist on the object in a way that is established by their own nature.

One might think that not even a tiny bit exists. Based on that, these appearances are just appearing vaguely, which is not difficult. Such a thing can happen to anyone who inclines towards the Madhyamaka school and has heard some teachings that explain the nature of no self-existence. However, the difficulty lies in completely refuting the self-existence that is established by its own nature, and in establishing the person without self-existence as the one who accumulates and experiences the results, etc., from that very basis, one must gain deep conviction from the bottom of one's heart. If one can combine these two aspects without falling into the extremes of existence and non-existence, then the view of Madhyamaka is extremely difficult to attain. Therefore, when examining reality with the reasoning that investigates the ultimate truth, since birth and so on cannot be found, what is negated is self-birth and so on. It does not negate all arising and ceasing, etc. If arising and ceasing, etc., are negated, then all functions will become empty, like a rabbit's horn and the child of a barren woman. If only an illusion-like appearance remains, then all actions of dependent origination will be untenable, which is a fault. As the Four Hundred Stanzas says: "If so, how can there be, the world is not like an illusion." In its commentary, it says: "If one sees dependent origination as it is, then it will be like a magic trick, not like the son of a barren woman. If this analysis completely negates birth, thereby intending to show that conditioned phenomena are unborn, then at that time it will not be like an illusion, but will be close to the son of a barren woman, etc. Because of the fear of overturning dependent origination, one does not conform to those, but conforms to illusions, etc., that are not contradictory." It also says: "Therefore, when examining in this way completely, the self-nature of things will not be established, so for each thing, only an illusion-like appearance will remain." Therefore, merely clinging to the dependent origination of illusion-like appearances is not a faulty illusion, but if one clings to the illusion-like appearance as being established by its own nature and believes it to be true, then it is a fault. The King of Samadhi Sutra also says: "The sentient world is like a dream, in this there is no birth and no death,
