That is how it is viewed. A person with patience will not have many enemies in the future, will not have many disputes, will become happy and have a pleasant mind, will die without regret, and after the body is destroyed, will also be born in the happy realm of the heavens, among the gods. That is how it is thought. Therefore, viewing it as beneficial in this way, one will also be patient oneself, and also lead others to correctly practice patience, and also speak praises of patience, and when one sees a person with patience, one will be happy and always feel joy. Like this, it is also said in the Compendium of Perfections: For those who have a mind of abandoning the benefit of others, patience is said to be the supreme of discipline. All the good and perfect things of the world are completely protected by patience from the faults of anger. It is the supreme ornament of those with power, the essence of strength for those who hold the discipline of asceticism. For the fire of harmful intent, it is like a stream of water. Patience eliminates all harm to this and others. On the armor of patience of the supreme beings, the arrows of words of the unruly people are shattered. Therefore, those words become good flowers of praise, and the garland of fame becomes pleasing. Like this, the skillful means of accomplishing form, which is adorned with the qualities of beauty and excellent marks, is also patience. It means that even with the evil deeds of sentient beings, one will not turn away from benefiting others, and one can be protected from the enemy of anger that destroys many roots of virtue. Even for small harms, patience can become a pleasing ornament. For the ascetics who are tormented by afflictions, it is the supreme strength, the stream of water that can destroy the great fire of harmful intent, the armor that cannot be pierced by the evil arrows of the unruly people, the master craftsman who can accomplish a beautiful form of golden color that attracts the eyes and minds of beings, and so on. Patience is praised through many doors of benefits. It is also said in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: Whoever strives to subdue anger, that person is happy in this life and the next. As it is said, if one constantly cultivates patience, because the joy of the mind will not diminish, one will be happy at all times in this life, and in the next life, one will prevent falling into the lower realms, obtain a special happy realm, and ultimately give definite goodness, therefore one will be happy in this life and the next. These and other benefits

Until a strong and stable conviction is gained regarding the cause-and-effect relationship arising from anger, one should meditate on it. Regarding the faults of anger, the unseen fault is: In the "Entering the Path of Enlightenment," it says, "Whatever good deeds, such as offerings to the Sugatas and giving, have been accumulated over a thousand eons, a single instance of anger destroys them all." This appears to be arranged in the "Entering the Path of Enlightenment" as it was composed by the noble Aryadeva. In the "Manjushri's Play Sutra," it is said that it destroys the merit accumulated over a hundred eons. In the "Entering," it is also said that the merit of practicing generosity and the perfection of discipline, accumulated over a hundred eons, is also destroyed by the arising of a moment of angry thought. What kind of object is it necessary to be angry at? Some say it is necessary to be angry at a Bodhisattva, while others consider it to be a general object. The former seems to be in accordance with what is said in the "Entering": "Why, when anger arises towards the sons of the Victorious Ones, the Muni said that anger destroys the accumulation of good deeds for a hundred eons." The basis for the arising of anger is: In the commentary on the "Entering," it is said that even if one is angry with a Bodhisattva, the root of virtue is destroyed, so what need is there to mention being angry with someone who is not a Bodhisattva? Whether the object is definitely a Bodhisattva or not, and whether the faults seen in the reason for anger are true or not, it is said to be the same for destroying the good deeds mentioned earlier. In general, it is not necessary to be angry with a Bodhisattva to destroy the root of virtue. In the "Compendium of Trainings," it is said that in the treatise of the "Sarvastivadins," it is also said: "Monks, a monk prostrates with all his limbs to a stupa of hair and nails, and looks at his mind and the interval in between. Venerable one, it is so. Monks, as much sand as there is beneath this earth that is pressed down, eighty-four thousand yojanas down to where it touches the golden wheels, this monk will enjoy a thousand times the kingdom of a Chakravartin." From there, the venerable Ananda, with his palms joined in reverence, asked the Bhagavan, "Bhagavan, the root of virtue of the monk that the Bhagavan spoke of,
