Nāpā taught two methods of meditating on the Tathāgata and the deities of his family, but whichever of the two is meditated upon, only one deity is taught for each. Either meditate on the deity as in the case of the great mandala, with a palace and seat in front, or if that is not possible, meditate on the deity as in the case of the four mudras and the one mudra, and then take vows. It is also said that the outer and inner offerings and praises, etc., should be done in four sessions, which seems easier than the system of Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyaltsen. The second is that, after generating the Tathāgata from the five Abhisambodhis and so on, if one cannot meditate on the deity, then one should only recite the essence of whatever deity it is, and meditate oneself as that deity, and also meditate in the same way in front, and then perform offerings, praises, etc., and complete the recitation. In the Avatara it says: 'As it is said, for a mantra practitioner who cannot practice the yoga of the Samaya-sattva of his own deity, mere recitation is sufficient.' And through its meaning, one should visualize the deity being recited as blessing and empowering oneself, and as being endowed with samādhi and offerings. One should also meditate in the same way in front and recite, this is the vow. So it is said. This generation of the deity with just the words of the deity's essence is also for those who desire accomplishment only through recitation and so on, if one cannot meditate. If one can meditate, one should not do so, and the tantras explain this. It also says in the same text: 'This second method of accomplishing the Samaya-sattva with just the words of the essence is taught to those who desire accomplishment only through recitation.' It is not for those who can accomplish it through meditating on the Mahāmudrā and so on. Why is that? In the later and later tantras, in the chapter on recitation, it says: 'This secret is not suitable for those who have no attachment to wrong views.' And so on, it is extensively explained. Even transforming oneself into the body of a Buddha through the meaning of the essence. In front, one should also visualize the body of a Buddha with just words, and do as one pleases, therefore one should recite with one hundred and eight vajra words. So it is clearly explained. This is like, in the case of extracting the ritual of deity yoga, the term meditation is applied, and even that is different.

Due to the greatness, performing empowerments and consecrations for the living and the dead, and doing so through the methods of the Yoga Tantras, even if one practices a little, one must complete one's own recitations. The second part has three points: the necessity of meditating on the subtle, stabilizing the mind by focusing on the subtle, and the manner of performing expansion and contraction after gaining stability. The first point is: In the first section of that compilation, it says: Then abide very calmly. Whatever is to be meditated upon, all of those will become stable, examined by meditative wisdom. It means that after accomplishing the subtle samadhi, abiding calmly, all the deity bodies and so on that need to be meditated upon will become stable, that is, they will manifest, as it is said in that very manifestation, therefore through this one can obtain a particularly manageable mind, so that everything one meditates upon will be helped. It is also said in the Avatar: Therefore, especially yogis who desire to attain siddhis arising from samadhi must first meditate on the vajra subtle. As will be explained later, in order to accomplish many siddhis through mere contemplation, this must be used as a guide. In short, this is the practice of a special shamatha-vipassana, therefore the necessities for which shamatha-vipassana is needed are also the necessities for this.
