Those who do not know the path to liberation, yet presume to know, intoxicated by the poisonous water of arrogance, those who claim to be teachers, such as the Samkhyas, etc., wishing to explain the true nature of things in a way different from that taught by the Sugatas, they piece together some different treatises that are disguised as the correct path, and teach them to those who desire liberation. Therefore, only the perfectly complete Buddha, and the teachings taught by him, and those who properly study these teachings, are the teachers, paths, and companions for those who desire liberation, and other teachers and teachings that are different from this Dharma, and those who study them, are not so. Therefore, one must gain unwavering certainty in the refuge. In this way, it will be understood that only the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are the entrance for those who desire liberation. This certainty, if it is a person of small intellect, can only be obtained through his own conjecture; if it is a person of great intellect, then he should seek a firm certainty guided by valid cognition (pramana). Otherwise, it is only a verbal commitment. As it is said in the "Praise of the Transcendent," "I do not take sides with the Buddha, nor do I hate the Samkhyas, etc., whatever words are in accordance with reason, I completely accept as the teacher." Therefore, one should abandon partiality and hatred towards the doctrines of one's own and others' teachers, and consider which of the two is well-spoken and which is poorly spoken. If a certain teaching can explain the method of accomplishing the two benefits of those to be tamed, and has a correct proof, then it should be adopted. At this time, whether the two Agamas have a true meaning is the basis for judgment, so the point of contention cannot be used as the basis for proof, but reason itself should be used to distinguish whether it has a true meaning. The way of this is that when it arises in the continuum of a person, although one should first obtain the temporary benefit of higher realms, and then obtain the ultimate benefit of definite goodness. However, when judging which Agama can explain the two benefits of beings, and whether it is deceptive, one should first determine that the main benefit of definite goodness is non-deceptive in reason, and then infer whether the secondary benefit of higher realms is deceptive. This is the view of the wise, as it is said in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, "For the sake of not deceiving the main benefit,

Who can measure it? As it is also said in the Four Hundred: "Whoever has doubts about what the Buddha has said in secret, he should rely on emptiness and have faith in this alone." Thus it is said. Therefore, the cycle of suffering that arises from the clinging to self, which connects the aggregates of suffering, and the stages of progressing to liberation by attaining the state of liberation through the wisdom of realizing selflessness, etc., in the rational treatises, just as they are proven by reason, they must be established by reason. If one says that these are extremely hidden from direct perception, so the only thing that can establish them is scripture, then, that I have abandoned other teachers and taken refuge in the Blessed One, this is only my own wish, and there is no real basis for establishing it, this is exposing the fault of one's own refuge. Because at that time it is thought that the scriptures cannot establish it, and there is no rational establishment either. Furthermore, when one's own and others' teachers proclaim the existence or non-existence of past and future lives, the permanence or impermanence of the aggregates, the existence or non-existence of self, etc., and when one's own great schools and other schools argue about what is reasonable and what is not, it will also become impossible to fully establish the scriptures of one's own teacher. For the scriptures of the extremely hidden teacher that cannot be established by direct perception, in order not to deceive the meaning to be taught, one must purify them with three kinds of examination.
