Patience is the excellent tenet that leads to enlightenment. If one doubts even the infallible direct perception of supreme and common attainments, considering them artificial and false, then one's own consciousness, being far more concealed than oneself, is itself a valid means of knowledge. "Until one attains the four individual knowledges and the nine grounds, one cannot know the definitive terms of all phenomena." Considering this, even if it may appear that something is not the Buddha's word in the perception of one's own senses and fortune, as it is said in the Compendium: "Whatever disciples of the Victorious Ones teach, however much they speak of possessing exposition and intelligence, and of bringing supreme noble bliss and attaining its fruit, all of that is due to the power of the Tathagata's beings. Why? Because whatever Dharma the Victorious Ones teach, the best of men, having become disciples, first learn and then teach as they have learned through direct experience. This is done through the power of the Buddhas, not through the power of their own strength." And in the Uttaratantra: "It is said that the three realms abandon afflictions, and whatever qualities of peace are spoken of, those are the three straight ones, and the opposite is otherwise." One must keep mindfulness close. If one does not keep it close, the obscurations of slandering the Dharma and individuals are immeasurable. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: "Whatever slandering of the noble ones and disparaging of the Dharma they have spoken, all of that is affliction fostered by the manifest attachment of ignorance. Therefore, do not associate the mind with those stained with the dirt of attachment." With that characteristic, in the commentary on the Uttaratantra it says: "Like the sun in the expanse of clouds, here you are one-sidedly intelligent. Even the noble ones with pure eyes of wisdom do not see everything." Therefore, the Dharma-dhatu of the Buddhas is like an ocean, and other than the Tathagatas, even the noble ones with pure eyes of wisdom cannot fully comprehend it. So how vast can what is seen in the midst of the snow mountains be? Those who are known as scholars cannot accept or reject the Dharma like an ocean. Therefore, closing the eyes of good sight, uttering the wails of distorting the meaning, cultivating the distinctions of partisan attachment, sharpening the fangs of jealousy, and boasting of the strength of acquired possessions, believing in the words of slander, and thus holding wrong views, the obscurations are immeasurable. Those who are wise and impartial

Those people do not strive to engage in such sins for the sake of life, just as they pursue fame and gain, in order to fall into the Avici hell in this very life. Like this, even if those who have not entered a religious system commit the five inexpiable sins, if they contemplate the profound meaning, there will be a time when they have the opportunity for liberation. Abandoning the Dharma is not like that. In the Uttaratantra it says: Because of inferior intelligence and abandoning the white Dharma, relying on the arrogance of wrong views, in order to abandon the obscurations of abandoning the Dharma, in order to hold the meaning of the direct meaning, because of greed for gain, because of the power of views, in order to rely on those who slander the Dharma, in order to prolong adherence to the Dharma, because of inferior faith, even Arhats abandon the Dharma. Just as the profound Dharma declines, so too the wise should not be extremely afraid of fire, unbearable poisonous snakes, executioners, and hail. Fire, snakes, enemies, and the fire of Vajra only take away life, but that (abandoning the Dharma) is more terrifying than falling into the Avici hell. Whoever, due to relying on evil friends, develops ill will towards the Buddha, and kills parents, Arhats, does what should not be done, and destroys the Sangha, if they truly contemplate the nature of reality, they can quickly be liberated from it. Where is liberation for those whose minds hate the Dharma? And so on. Similarly, because the inclinations and thoughts of sentient beings are different, the languages of sentient beings are also inconceivable. The language of the Sugata teaches the corresponding Dharma. Indeterminate forms arise from the Buddha's mind. Because people and Dharma also appear in many different ways, in order to accomplish things, it is said that this is wrong and this is false. To judge in this way by means of false accusations is an unbearable act. Those who read here, like gold that has been burned, cut, and polished, should carefully examine my words and accept them, but not because of respect for me. Although one can rely on this statement, it does not mean that each person clings to their own ideas, takes one idea as a personal deity, and thereby increases the discrimination between right and wrong regarding the terms of the Dharma. Rather, it means that when studying the Dharma that one should truly pursue, one should measure it with completely pure wisdom by contemplating the order of words and meanings, and that is the proper intention. In the Ratnagotravibhāga, only those like me and I can measure the Dharma and people, others cannot, because that is wrong.
