I take refuge in the true Three Jewels, the three roots of the Sugata, the essence of channels, winds, and bindus, the Bodhicitta. In the mandala of essence, nature, and compassion, until the heart of enlightenment, I take refuge. Having taken refuge as much as possible, I and all sentient beings dissolve into the objects of refuge, such as the Three Jewels. These also dissolve into the central Lama, the embodiment of all Three Refuges. That also dissolves into the primordial state of the Dharmakaya, free from elaboration. In the refuge of the meaning of reality, remain equally as it is. Third, contemplating the benefits: This is the foundation of all Dharmas. By merely taking refuge, one sows the seeds of liberation, distances oneself from the accumulation of non-virtue, increases virtue, becomes the basis of all vows, becomes the source of all qualities, and temporarily, one is protected by the gods of the white side, and wishes are fulfilled as desired. One is always inseparable from the light of the Three Jewels, remembers past lives, is happy in this life and the next, and ultimately attains the state of Buddhahood, etc., with immeasurable benefits. Incidentally, in order for the vows of refuge to remain in the continuum, a brief summary of the characteristics of the precepts: Having taken refuge in the Buddha, one should not rely on worldly gods in samsara, nor seek protection from kings, etc., who are difficult to rely on and give harm. One should not be negligent in any disrespectful service, even to broken pieces of Buddha images. Having taken refuge in the Dharma, one should abandon the thought of harming sentient beings, even in dreams, and generate respect even for scraps of letters. Having taken refuge in the Sangha, one should not associate with those with wrong views and conduct, or with objects of non-Buddhists, nor should one step on yellow scraps with one's feet. In short, in this supreme secret vehicle, the main object of refuge is the Lama. The Lama's mind is the Buddha, speech is the Dharma, and body is the Sangha. Therefore, if one denigrates that, it is equivalent to abandoning all objects of refuge. The foundation of all Dharmas, one should be diligent in the key points of refuge. Second, the root of the Great Vehicle, the guidance on generating Bodhicitta, has three parts: training the mind with the four immeasurables, generating Bodhicitta, and taking the precepts of aspiration and engagement. Among these three, in the first:

Furthermore, cultivate equanimity: What is it? The current situation is that we are very attached to our parents, relatives, and those on our side, and we harbor unbearable hatred towards enemies and their side. This is also a fault of not examining things properly. Like this, in previous lives, enemies have been relatives, and relatives have been enemies, there is no doubt about it. Even now, even if we treat enemies as enemies, there is no reason to believe that they will necessarily harm us. If we know how to adapt, they may even benefit us like relatives. Even if they are relatives, like children deceiving their parents, they may unite with adversaries, take their side, seize property, quarrel, and fight, which becomes obvious. Even if they appear to be very friendly, when they encounter unpleasant things, they will also bring suffering to us, destroy temporary happiness, and ultimately become a great obstacle to virtuous deeds, even throwing us into the lower realms. In that case, what could be more like an enemy than that? From the perspective of the future, enemies will become relatives, and relatives will become enemies, this is uncertain. Why be like a madman? Like this, starting from one or two beings, gradually observe them spreading throughout space, free from closeness and distance, attachment and aversion, and cultivate the equanimity of no object of focus. Then cultivate loving-kindness: Consider all beings as the object of focus, just as parents cherish their young children and tolerate their mistakes, with a strong desire to connect these beings with happiness and good fortune, cultivate loving-kindness, thinking about what methods can be used to help them. Then cultivate compassion: Bring to mind those who are imprisoned in dungeons, facing death, or animals waiting for death in slaughterhouses, suffering from intense pain, and generate the feeling of love like a mother and child towards them, thinking how wonderful it would be if they could be freed from this suffering immediately and quickly, cultivate unbearable compassion, even shedding tears. Then gradually cultivate on other lower realms, and all the actions that lead to birth in the lower realms, and finally abide in a state of no object of focus. Then comes joy: Imagine someone in the heavenly realms who is happy and joyful, long-lived, with many attendants, and possessing wealth, without generating jealousy or competitiveness towards them.
