Moreover, whatever aspiration prayers are practiced well, whether they are held, recited, or read, only the Buddha knows their ripening results. Do not doubt the supreme Bodhicitta! As such, the benefits of teaching the sacred Dharma are inconceivable, and all Sutras and Dharanis have inexhaustible merits. Among them, reading and reciting are equal in terms of merit, but the difference in speed is like the movement of a wooden cart and the sun and moon. Recitation is extremely fast, so the power to accumulate merit is great. For example, Master Vasubandhu recited the twelve parts of the scriptures once a year, and the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita can be recited in one or two hours, which measures the difference between slow and fast. Also, if a large copper vessel is filled with sesame oil, and one sits in it and recites continuously for fifteen days and nights, it can be finished, which is just a brief analogy. The sound was heard by the pigeons under the eaves, thereby reducing the obscurations, and in the very next life, he was reborn as Master Lodro Tendar, and the benefit of hearing the sound can also be demonstrated by this. Do not doubt that others cannot do this, because those who are awake in dreams can recite many names in one hour, because of the coarse wind-mind, which transcends the limitations of recitation. From one's own perspective, the longer a person who constantly recites lives, the longer the accumulation of merit increases. As Master Ngagi Wangchuk said: 'The one who subdues the power of Dharma practice, as long as samsara exists, the accumulation of merit and other resources will increase, and the aids to Bodhi will also increase.' Therefore, even if they are the same practitioners who have entered the path of Dharma, the difference between diligence in accumulating and purifying obscurations and non-diligence is like the difference between a merchant obtaining a wish-fulfilling jewel and a turtle falling asleep. The latter: 'The distance between the sky and the earth is also far, the other side of the ocean and the shore of the river are also far, the mountains between the east and the west are even farther, and the Dharma of ordinary people and saints is even farther.' It should be known that this is a characteristic of going from light to darkness.

Reflection. Listening and reading without any reflection are like the words of a talking bird. That is, the practice of Dharma without the mind wandering elsewhere and without focusing on mindfulness is fruitless. The "Bodhicharyavatara" says: "The fruits of body and speech are also in vain due to poor conduct. Even if recitation and asceticism are practiced for a long time, if they are done with the mind wandering elsewhere, the wise say that they are meaningless. If one does not know this disease of the mind, even if one wants to attain happiness and stop suffering, one will wander blindly forever. Therefore, I must hold this mind, hold it well, and guard it well. If one does not guard this mind, it is difficult to keep vows. What is the use of keeping so many vows?" This is clearly stated. Like this, profound wisdom that analyzes the meaning of words can gather virtues like the ocean, and will not make mistakes in what to take and what to abandon. In particular, listening to, reading, holding, explaining, or reciting Sutras and Shastras, a special understanding will arise through thoughtful analysis of the meaning of the words. If one cannot analyze with one's own power, then asking virtuous spiritual friends and those who are more intelligent than oneself will increase one's own wisdom like the waxing moon. For example, taking the first turning of the wheel of Dharma as an example, the Buddha said: "Monks, you should know suffering, you should abandon the origin, you should realize cessation, and you should rely on the path." Thinking about the meaning of these words, one will understand that suffering is the fault of samsara. The cause of suffering is the origin, which is the nature of ignorance. If one abandons the karma created by the collection of afflictions arising from the mind and mental factors, then the result, suffering, will cease. Like this, abandoning suffering must rely on the truth of the path, so it is said that one should rely on the path. Then how to rely on it? The "Three Hundred Verses" says: "Abandon killing, stealing, adultery, lying, etc., singing, dancing, garlands, high beds, untimely food, and receiving gold and silver. That which can conquer the enemy of afflictions is called the Pratimoksha vows."
